We met the good ol' fashioned millennial way - on Hinge, a dating app - in September of 2018. We matched and immediately started to talk about Positano, Italy, a city we both wished we had never left when we visited. A day or so later, Smrithi's ADHD brain completely forgot to respond to Trent, and it stayed that way for about a month. Finally, at the beginning of November, Smrithi messaged back: "Hey I'm sorry I'm so bad at checking this - just text me!" and accidentally sent him the WRONG phone number (1 digit off). There were SO many things that could have led to us never actually meeting, but we finally made it to our first date on November 6th. It was instantly comfortable and fun for both of us - the kind of meeting where you feel like you’ve known the person for a long time - and lasted for longer than 5 hours. We ate, bar hopped, bonded over food and sports, and explored East Austin. After a few bars (and many margaritas), Smrithi finally looked at Trent and said “So, are you gonna kiss me, or…?” and there was no looking back from there. Turns out that night was the last first date for both of us; we became “official” on December 15, said “I love you” by the end of January, and moved in together in March. Thank goodness for Positano, Italy.

Once upon a time...Trent was planning on proposing to Smrithi in May 2021 and decided it would be great to have both families together during the extravaganza. So, he got together with Smrithi's family and came to the conclusion that he could pop the question during Mother's Day Weekend. Without taking the spotlight from his and her mother on their special day, he disguised a plot to have her family fly over to San Diego for Mother's Day to join Trent and Smrithi who were already planning on being in San Diego during that weekend. Not only would the two families all celebrate the two mothers on their special day, but this gave reasoning and legitimate trickery to have Smrithi's parents also join the couple in San Diego while the secret engagement was underway. Well, Smrithi fell for the idea and didn't think twice about anything being suspicious until things started coming off as suspicious lol...We might leave these details out for now. Accidents happen. Love you Grandma!! Fast forward to The "Yes" Day. May 8th, 2021. The day before Mother's Day. Trent took her to the Point Loma Tide Pools. The ocean is one of two things that really make Smrithi smile (the other being animals), so Trent knew this would be the perfect spot for a proposal. With the help of a family friend, Martin Mann, who is a professional photographer whom Smrithi hadn't met yet, there would be some candid, sneaky shots to capture the special moment at the Point Loma Tidepools. Unfortunately, we ran into some hiccups. There had been a shipwreck the weekend before which closed off parts of the tidepools. In addition, there was ZERO cell phone service in the area so no way to contact Martin on updates. We were also 30 minutes late...lol. Luckily, Martin was still there and we were able to make eye contact and a few hand gestures to coordinate the moment. Finally, after a few deep breaths and a bend of the knee, he asked and she said OF COURSE!!
