The towns of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked by a spectacular, 13-minute ride on a free gondola. This popular scenic attraction provides access to hiking and biking trails in the summer. Passengers can load the gondola in either Mountain Village or Telluride and ride to the midway point (Station St. Sophia from which hiking, biking and ski trails are accessed) and then continue on to the other side.
The San Miguel is Telluride’s local river, a terrific trout stream with more than 20 miles of public access just west from Town. Easy - Perfect for a stroll, this easy trail can be accessed from a variety of side streets in Telluride. The trail basically follows the San Miguel River for the length of the town. Dog-friendly with many swimming holes, the "River Trail" is a year-round favorite of locals.
The spectacular Bridal Veil Falls are the tallest free-falling falls in Colorado. At 365 feet in height, these falls entice visitors and adventurers from all over the world to hike, bike, four-wheel drive, ice climb, and explore the surrounding wilderness. A privately owned, historic power plant sits atop the falls. Distance: 1.8 miles one-way to top of the falls on the road Difficulty: Moderate Elevation Gain: 1,650 feet
Telluride's Via Ferrata is not for the faint-hearted. At its most intense, you're suspended on a small iron foothold by a harness at 500 feet. The newly-legal climbing route is technical, breathtaking and exposed on the East end and South-facing wall of Telluride's boxed canyon. If you do decide to partake in this incredible experience, please be safe!
The Jud Wiebe Trail is a short, yet steep, trail that offers views of the Telluride Ski Resort and the entire valley. This is a loop that can be hiked in either direction from Aspen Street or Tomboy Road. The Jud Wiebe Trail is typically accessible year-round due to its location on southern side of the mountain. The trail is named in honor of Jud Wiebe, a forest ranger who made major contributions to the trails systems around Telluride.
