Stave churches were built in and around Scandinavia from the waning years of the Viking Age (11th - 12th century CE) to the beginning of the Early Modern Period (1500 CE). The technique of using vertical posts - or staves - to construct massive wooden buildings had been modified over time through several artistic and architectural waves and eventually became an iconic European art form. The Moorhead Stave Church is a full-scale replica of the Hopperstad Stave Church located in Vik, Norway.

Our handfasting takes place at the Hjemkomst Center. Aside from the Hopperstad Stave Church, the center is home to the Hjemcomst Viking Ship. Tours are available from 9:00am-5:00pm. Our reception will not have a meal service. Please dine at one of Fargo-Moorhead's wonderful local restaurants before joining the festivities. There will be a charcuterie board, cake cutting, and mead toast (in lieu of champagne). BYOB. We hope to provide some good 'ole Viking pastimes like axe throwing, archery, and of course - drinking. #SKOL
