How I Met JP

I guess he liked the sandwich?

We met at Syracuse University in the fall of 2021. I first saw JP outside the training room before our annual physicals for the cross-country team. I thought he was pretty cute, but I was too shy to talk to him. That fall, I was managing a foot injury and would frequently bike to the campus pool to cross-train. His house was on the way, and a few times, we'd wave at each other as I pedaled up the hill. In late November, I went to a teammate's house for a social gathering and saw him there. I decided to try to talk with him, but it was too loud to hear anything. I asked our teammate for his number instead. We started texting, and I thought he was super sweet. I wanted to make a bold move and ask him out. So I dressed up like a ninja and went to get his favorite sandwich from Jimmy John's. It seemed like a great idea until I got to his door and realized how crazy I looked. I knocked on his door and hid behind the trash cans so he wouldn't see me. He called out and looked confused. When the door closed, I ran back to my car and drove home. He called me and asked if I wanted to come in. I played it cool and pretended I didn't know what he was talking about. I was so nervous he'd think I was a complete weirdo, but instead, he invited me over the next day. So, I guess it was a good sandwich – and the rest is history.

How I met Shona

Yes, it was a good sandwich!

I met Shona at Syracuse University as a member of the Track and Field/XC team. I remember watching Shona bike past my house and waving to her; however, it was not until she delivered a Jimmy John's sandwich that really got to know her. That night, I heard a knock at the door while sitting in the living room watching TV with my roommates. I found a box sitting outside with a note for "an aspiring lawyer" and a sandwich (I had texted her that I was in law school when she messaged me). I instantly thought "OOOO a sandwich," and went to invite her inside. Yet, I could not find her, and when I called, she pretended like it just magically appeared on my doorstep. My roommate laughed, and I enjoyed a pretty good sandwich. The rest is history.
