Travel Note

Location of the Wedding

Our wedding will be located at Villa Shalimar which is a beautiful estate with 3 villas, 3 pools and a huge lush lawn which will be the location for most of our events across the 3 days of the wedding. The villa contains 12 bedrooms which will be occupied by Shiv, Carolyn and their close family and friends who will be involved in the wedding. We are asking guests to stay close by and our suggestion would be either to stay very close by to the wedding venue in Munggu (there are many great options very close by, many within walking distance on booking.com and Airbnb) or Canggu (this would be a 15-30 minute drive away from the wedding villa - more built up area with lots of dining and entertainment options). With the events being spaced out on some of the days we would advise staying as close to the venue as possible to allow easy travel back to your accommodation to rest or shower/change your clothes particularly given the Bali heat. Whilst there is an option of staying in one location for the duration of your Bali trip such an Seminyak, this may not be in your best interest. Please do not look at google maps as an indicator of distance and times from the wedding venue. For example the wedding will be taking place in Munggu which is only 13.7km away from Seminyak. In Australia we’d say, only 20mins to get there. Keep in mind this is Bali, there are only a few roads and these can be gridlocked. It may take you 25mins at 3 am but can also take over an hour in peak times. When Shiv did a day trip from Uluwatu to Seminyak the return trip was almost two hours for a 26km journey. We have included some hotel options that are close by to our wedding villa below

Where should I stay before the wedding?

Shiv and Carolyn will be staying in Canggu. This is the next suburb over from the wedding venue with only a 20min trip between. This is more built up and has plenty of accommodation and venues to visit. This is also close to the likely hens / bucks parties for those who are coming

Travel Note

Where should I stay during the wedding?

The wedding is located in Munggu which has very little built up areas and is mostly surrounded by farm land / rice patties. Saying this there are quite a few great options for accommodation with villas and apartments available particularly on Airbnb for those who want to stay within walking distance to the wedding location. Shiv and Carolyn, along with 28 other guests will be occupying the villas on the Shalimar Estate. As the wedding has multiple events including at awkward times we are recommending people to stay somewhere nearby with Canggu being the recommended location with the best amenities. This would also work well for those people coming to the pre wedding events

Travel Note

Can I stay on after the wedding and join in the celebrations?

Of course! This is what we are most looking forward to. The mini holiday after the wedding (which is all optional of course). Those who need to head back home straight after the wedding can do so and those who want to stay on and celebrate with us are so welcome! We are excited to spend some time with our friends and family, some whom we haven’t seen for years. For Shiv’s mum’s side of the family, some haven’t seen each other since Krishna’s wedding 10 years ago!! - We will check out of Villa Shalimar on Friday 6th June and stay at Grand Mercure, Semiyak for 5 nights from 6th June, checking out on 11th June to then head to our mini honeymoon for the next 5 nights. We would recommend that all those who want to stay on to celebrate with us also stay at the Grand Mercure, which is an amazing resort newly opened in 2022 and having so many facilities – pool, fitness centre, kids club, restaurants/bar while being only a few minutes walk from the beach. We will also have a recommended more budget friendly option (see below for further details about accommodation). - Important to note that in Australia Monday 9th June is a public holiday for Kings Birthday so you’ll have an extra day off work/school for the kids

Where should I stay after the wedding?

As mentioned, we are looking to spend quality time with our family and friends in a mini holiday. You can stay anywhere in Seminyak as you can access everything within a 10min drive. For those who want to make it easy and convenient we are suggesting two places depending on your budget. 1. The Grand Mecure, Seminyak Shiv and Carolyn will be staying here and inviting everyone to join them who wishes https://all.accor.com/hotel/9823/index.en.shtml Approx. $200AUD a night per room (2 people) We picked this hotel as it has all the amenities which would enable the best quality time, with the best service. This includes - Large pool with swim up bar - Kids club onsite - Restaurant - Bar - Fitness club - Located on the beach for stunning views and near the entertainment areas of Seminyak 2. For those who want a more economical option we recommend: Ramada Encore, Seminyak https://www.ramadaencoreseminyakbali.com/ Approx. $70AUD a night per room (2 people) This hotel has nice amenities and is only 15mins away. You are welcome to base your things there and come join Shiv and Carolyn by the pool / restaurant at the Grand Mercure as our guests. During our time in Seminyak we will be planning to make it the easiest relaxing time afterwards with 1 day trip: The idea is that we plan to base ourselves at the resort. People can come spend quality time if they wish The day trip will be to o A kid friendly beach club in Uluwatu. This is effectively a fancy restaurant with a swimming pool at the beach that will likely have some atmosphere. Giving us something fun to do, however together and relaxed. It is located in the region that people can go tour the Garuda temple, see a firedance show or watch sunet. I won't be going personally as I plan to beach club all day - The remaining days we’ll spend at our hotel next to the pool - Likely in the evenings we might head to a restaurant close by if people are keen to join - The overall theme is relax and spend quality time together

Travel Tips for Bali

- If it is your first time in Bali, the airport is likely going to be confronting as there are hundreds of people looking for travel. - It is recommended to have a driver in Bali that takes you from the airport to the accomodation. This is easy to find. When you book your villa they likely will have an option of getting a driver for you at a set price per person. Whilst this is more than what you should pay, it is neglible and will save you stress. You should organise this with your villa host. - If you are wanting to have someone that helps you get around, a lot of foreigners have a 'driver' who can be with you for the time you are there. You have to let them know your intended destination and times and they will make themselves available for you. This is more costly that other apps but worth it if you are travelling longer distances outside the suburb or are not good with phone apps. They will do other jobs in between your times but can help reduce any travel anxiety - If you have a local SIM then it is highly recommended you download the two apps 'gojek/ grab'. This is pretty much uber/uber eats for Bali. This app allows you to use local prices for booking car trips. I found the trip to the airport was 1/4 the cost of a private driver. We ordered Nasi Goreng for $1.80AUD delivered when it cost $18 in the restaurant directly as a foreigner. - If you have the app then please jump on to organise lifts from the airport or other locations around the suburbs you are staying in - If you are doing a whole day of travelling, for convenience, it is easier to pay more for a driver as when it comes to $AUD terms you are usually haggling over a few bucks
