Update on our Wedding Reception

Get ready to PARTY!

Matt and I decided to get married last year and then save the celebration with all of our loved ones for a later date. We postponed the reception until April, then had to postpone again, and now with our fingers crossed, knocking on wood and avoiding ladders and black cats, we are so excited to finally celebrate this day!! Since Matt and I have already tied the knot, we are going to skip the theatrics of tying the knot again. We are picking up where we left off with cocktail hour, and then segueing into our long-awaited first dance, parent dances, speeches, pie cutting, enjoying all of the amazing food our caterer is planning, and dancing the rest of the night away. We have been waiting for this night for a long time, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you. We plan to make a weekend out of it! So if you are around for the entire weekend, be sure to check out our events and things to do page, so we can show you the very best of this city that we love so much.

Our Love Story

11/11/2015

(From Maggie:) Matt and I met in the 11th grade in our gifted education class. Matt was this super cute, long-haired guy with braces who played hockey, loved his dog, and was well liked among the rest of the school. Eventually we started "talking..." which I documented through some old embarrassing diary entries and an equally as embarrassing discourse between Matt and I on Facebook that is still up today (thank you FB for being a bottomless pit of teenage history). We ended up not pursuing anything more with each other in high school than occasionally texting each other at 11:11 PM. We stayed friends, followed each other to James Madison University, and shared the same friend circles there. We graduated in 2014, I moved to Charlottesville, and our paths stopped crossing as we started our careers. About a year and a half after we graduated, a mutual friend of ours from high school was getting married (S/O to Jake and Lauren Braun!) and the wedding turned out to be a huge high school reunion. Matt and I danced with each other and the rest of our old friends, and I put Matt in the back of my mind. But after I left that weekend, I couldn't just keep him there. Within a month we decided to pursue each other again, and we made our official anniversary date 11/11. I've grown up with him, I love him for who he was, who I've watched him grow to be, and I'm so honored and excited to watch him grow into the amazing man he will become.

The Proposal

August 24th, 2019

(From Matt:) Every year for our birthdays, Maggie and I visit an escape room. It’s become one of our favorite things to do and most people who know us have probably heard us preach about how much fun they are. When I started thinking about how I would propose to Maggie, doing it in an escape room immediately popped into my head. I called a local escape room on Main St in Charlottesville, VA, and asked if they could help me propose to my girlfriend. They were as excited as me in helping me plan and prepare the proposal there. The room was Paris themed and they set it up so the last clue to escape the room would be the ring box. In order to give me some time to grab the box without giving it away, I had wrote a poem for Maggie and placed it so she would grab that first and read what it had to say. I wrote the poem to sound like a clue, but it had subtle hints throughout. Here is the poem: Three Letter Word A three letter word Will change your life. Here’s a little hint, You’ll become a wife. It’s the answer to a question, To end this escape room session. That three letter word, Will need to be heard! The question will be, Will you marry me? Somehow she didn’t get the hints I put in throughout the poem and she turned around to see me on my knee asking her to marry me. With a shocked look on her face I asked her and she said, “YES!” My favorite part is mid-cry she said, “You got me so good!” Well I had a few more surprises for her. After we exited the escape room, both of our families were there in the hallway to congratulate us. In addition, my brother, Zach, his girlfriend, Anna, and Maggie’s sister, Emily, had all flown out from Denver to be there with us. I loved seeing Maggie’s face when she saw everyone. After we took some photos in the lobby and we went down the stairs. Out on Main St, I had our friends waiting to congratulate her and surprise her. We took some photos together and headed to South Street Brewery to celebrate.
