Alexander Bowman and Sheldon Koppenhofer met in Savannah, Georgia on February 4, 2023. Sheldon was living in Savannah, working full time as a paralegal and bartending weekends at Moon River Brewing Company. Alex was living in Newnan, just outside of Atlanta, working full time as an aircraft mechanic for Delta Airlines at the Atlanta airport. Sheldon was just finishing up her bartending shift at Moon River in Savannah that Saturday afternoon, when Alex walked into the bar to meet some of his old college friends for drinks. He was in town just for the weekend, celebrating a friend’s birthday. Sheldon knew some of Alex’s college friends from working at the brewery, and they had already asked her to go out with their group after her bar shift for a few beers. Sheldon had previously said no, but when Alex walked in and joined their group, she decided something had changed her mind. The picture below is from the very first night they met. By the end of that first night, both Alex and Sheldon knew they had found their other half. The pair embarked on a long-distance relationship from Newnan to Savannah. The long distance part of their relationship lasted all of a year before they decided to move in together. Sheldon, and her husky Kai, moved to Newnan, Georgia in the fall of 2023, to live with Alex and his tuxedo cat Lily. Alex and Sheldon like to joke that Kai, a then 11-year-old dog, was sick of the city life in Savannah, and “retired” to Newnan to luxuriate his new big back yard. Kai is still enjoying his retirement in Newnan at age 13. Alex and Sheldon have since adopted another kitten to join their zoo, a little boy named Skip. In the nearly four years they’ve been together, Sheldon and Alex have travelled internationally to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Germany, and St. Maarten, and have also travelled domestically to see friends and family in North Carolina, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and New York. Sheldon and Alex have also enjoyed attending many Braves games together in Atlanta and attending various festivals and markets in their little town of Newnan. The pair bought their first house together in Newnan in May of 2026. On May 25, 2025, after about two-and-a-half years of dating, Alex asked Sheldon to marry him on Tybee Island in Georgia, on one of their many trips back to the area where they first met. Sheldon, of course, said yes. Alex and Sheldon cannot wait to celebrate their love with you on October 3, 2026 at Blue Mountain Vineyards in Dahlonega, Georgia. Alex and Sheldon selected a wedding venue in the North Georgia mountains, because it is the location of their very first getaway together as a couple back in the winter of 2023, and is very special to them.
