We “intermet” on the online dating site OkCupid in 2011. Shelby noticed Stephen’s great sense of humor, handsome face, and fun-loving spirit. Stephen was intrigued by Shelby’s boldness and way with words. Our first date was at the (now closed) Highline Bar on Capitol Hill, but we quickly ended up dancing the night away to the tunes of the Emerald City Soul Club. Fun fact: Stephen didn’t know what Shelby’s name was until they met in person!

In January 2020, we joined Stephen’s cousin Jessica and her family for a trip to Disneyland. Stephen enlisted them in a plan to pop the question and document it. That morning, we went on ALL the roller coasters we could before heading to Galaxy’s Edge. In front of the Millennium Falcon, Stephen the Jedi got down on one knee and said, “Shelby, will you marry me?” Shelby the Wookie didn’t know what was happening at first and took a moment before laughing and said, “Yes!” We celebrated by crafting our personalized lightsabers and co-piloting the Millennium Falcon.
