First comes school, then comes marriage... Her Version: Initially, Dr. Davis (or Davis as he was known to all of my student peers) was indeed my professor my first semester of grad school. Even in that setting he was charming, witty and hella smart. He made a few Duran Duran and U2 references that caught my attention but other than that, I was too busy learning and getting a degree. Fast forward to a few months before graduation and we had an impromptu casual interaction in the hallway which lit a spark. I had sent an email inquiring about some academic thing or other, and he replied with "PS would you like to go to Hawaii?" After a good laugh, I declined but agreed to go on a date to Elmer's Diner for strawberry crepes once he got back from the land of Luaus and the rest is history. His Version: Clearly she was smitten. I'm charming, witty, and hella smart. Ha! Actually, my feelings for Jen were completely professional until well after our class together was over. A couple of months before her graduation I was teaching a class and saw Jen in the hall. I still don't know why, but I walked out of my class mid-lecture to see her. And see her I did, in a way that I hadn't before. From that moment, Jen has been in my mind and in my heart. It's because of my growing feelings for her that I played the "strawberry crepes at Elmer's" card. If she had balked, she wasn't the woman for me. Needless to say, she loved the crepes.
