We were both living in Queens NYC when we met at Oliver's in Astoria, where Sean was working at the time. Our first date was on Memorial Day 2016. We took the subway to Union Square as the sun was setting, which I remember clearly because Manhattanhenge had all the photographers out in the streets. We wandered around the East Village, stopping in and out of bars getting food and drinks along 2nd Ave. The night flew by, talking and laughing the whole time. I think we both realized this was something really special.
Shannon had been in Ireland for most of December, so when she got back to NYC I planned a day of Christmas markets, ice skating, and a winter themed rooftop lunch. We headed home after lunch because Shannon thought I still had work, but I surprised her with the night off. I told her we had dinner reservations in Long Island City, which we nearly missed because of Shannon! After dinner, we walked along the boardwalk with a view of the Manhattan skyline in the background, our favorite spot in NYC. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said YES! We shared the news with family via Skype and phone calls before celebrating with Shannon’s family when we went home to Philly for Christmas the next day!
