Flight
We understand that some of you will be traveling to Tromsø from out of town. The easiest way to get to Tromsø is to fly into the Tromsø airport (TOS). Most flights go through Oslo and often require you to book a seperate ticket to Tromsø. The Oslo airport is small enough that an hour and a half layover will be plenty of time to catch another flight on a seperate ticket. You can also find some direct flights to Tromsø from other larger cities in Europe (Paris CDG, Frankfurt FRK, Copenhagen CPH) to help minimize the number of flights and layovers. Once you arrive at the Tromsø airport, you can either take a cab, a shuttle bus (airport express), or the city bus to get into town. The cab and shuttle bus are paid for with card and are found right outside the airport doors by arrivals. The city bus requires a ticket and there is a machine right by the bus stop where you can purchase one with card. To reach the city bus from the airport, you must exit the airport and go down the stairs, walk through the parking garage, and cross the street. Bus schedules can be found on the app Svipper or at this link: https://svipper.no/menu/travel/journey-planner/. To get to downtown Tromsø you will want to go from Tromsø lufthaven to Wi-To taking bus 40 or 42.
Hotel
Since some of you will be needing accomodations while in Tromsø, we have listed a few options here. If you are looking for the complete hotel experience along the harbor including the renowned Norwegian hotel breakfast, we can recommend the Scandic Ishavshotel, Clarion Collection Hotel With (my mom's favorite!), Clarion Collection Hotel Aurora, Radisson Blu Hotel Tromsø, and Clarion Hotel the Edge. There are also many other hotels located a street up from the harbor in downtown Tromsø such as the Enter hotels and the Thon Hotels. If you are looking for apartment-style living while you're staying in Tromsø, check out the numerous AirBnB options. We do recommend though that you stay on the island of Tromsø as the bridge to the mainland will be closed for part of the day on June 21st due to the midnight sun marathon.
