Our story takes place in a cafe, which has been and continues to be the epicentre of our lives; where we’ve met our friends, made our biggest decisions, celebrated our victories, and faced our woes. This cafe is the Colombian Company, and is worth remembering for the next time you’re in Bath and need a revolutionary coffee, or a place where you might happen to meet the person who’ll change your life. Our meet-cute, however, wasn’t quite as romantic and cute as the setting implies. Rather, Joe was trying to put into words the first essay he would have to write for his degree, and had just about managed to get the first sentence of his first draft onto the document, before I came along and asked if I could sit at his table as everywhere else was full. Being someone as nice as he was (is), he scooched up on his bench and gave me plenty of space to perch and sip my flatwhite. Unfortunately, I happened to get a look at his budding essay, watched him write a couple more lines, and felt the need to point out that everything he wrote was either misspelled or made no sense. I think most people would have found that rude and unsolicited (which it was), but Joe isn’t most people, and instead asked me to do better. Which I did. From there a friendship quickly formed, and a relationship followed soon after. Lockdown struck in the third month of our relationship, and Joe asked if I would move in with him, worried I would be on my own. It was a remarkably easy decision, and I found myself in a two bed flat with Joe, his best mate Jack, Jack's partner Freya, their dog Millie, and at one point, Millie’s offspring. It was make or break, and I can tell you that there was never a second where our relationship even faltered. Six years later and here we are. And I am so excited to share this moment with you. Lots of Love, Shannon
