A highly recommended day or afternoon trip for those who have never been to Rhode Island, Newport is a historic town with lots to do and see. Walk around town and shop (for those coming from CA, RI does not have sales tax on clothes! Everything is 10% off!!!), drive around and visit the massive, historic mansions, or do the cliff walk: a 3.5 mile hike with ocean and mansion views. Or, stop by the White Horse Tavern for a pint, which claims to be the oldest working bar in the US. There is also a ferry terminal here out of the harbor to go to Block Island.
A great day trip, take the ferry over to this nearby island where you can kayak, paddle board, rent scooters, have a beach day, or explore the little town. A great place to spend the 4th of July!
