Sean selected an artsy outing to WonderSpaces San Diego for our first date — their tagline is “experience extraordinary art.” Yes, it was interactive and no, we do not claim to “understand art” in that way that people who normally go to these art shows probably typically do. Neither of us could have predicted the outcome of this date would be that we’d grow our relationship to this point, but the unusual setting certainly helped predetermine our compatibility and set the tone for what would become a beautiful love story. Hands down this was the most unique, ridiculously fun, sort of awkward and yet truly memorable first date either of us have ever had. For being the first time ever even meeting the other, it quickly and easily felt very comfortable—even while it removed us so far out of our comfort zones! Within the walls of this art exhibit, we let our own walls down and developed an almost instant rapport. For the most part, we succeeded in maintaining our composure throughout this quirky date - but there was one particular sound exhibit with singing, floating balls that garnered actual, booming belly laughs and an accompanying fit of giggles that just wouldn’t quit. After we wrapped up WonderSpaces, Jenna suggested walking over to Waterfront Park, where we continued the fun and played like kids again on the playground, in the spirit of being totally unabashedly ourselves. That playfulness, laughter, and comfortability is what set this date apart the most, and it continues to govern our light-hearted and love-filled relationship today.
