It was the end of Carolyn's six month London Musical Theatre program and Sean arrived just in time to see the final performance of the musical Rent. Afterwards, Sean and Carolyn went on a holiday to the fishing town of Penzance in Cornwall, UK. It's situated on the western coast of England in an idyllic setting, known for fresh seafood, scones, clotted cream, tea and meat pasties. At a gorgeous vista facing St. Michael's Mount castle, called Tremenhere Sculpture Gardens, Sean organized the most romantic proposal (which Sean accomplished stateside with countless WhatsApp calls). Sean booked a renowned harpist who had recently performed for Queen Elizabeth II herself. She played "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt; which is the song Sean serenaded Carolyn with on a high school trip to NYC, having no idea what the future had in store for them. He got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box from his sock which he had had hidden away all day. Both shed tears as Sean lovingly asked Carolyn to marry him to which she promptly interrupted, "YES!" Only the photographer hiding in the trees, and the harpist were the sole onlookers during the magical moment. Following a show at the cliffside Minack Theatre, Sean and Carolyn had an unforgettable dinner at an old English tavern where copious amounts of drinks and food were consumed. The newly engaged couple popped back to London and were then whisked off to Greece for their ProposalMoon (trademark pending). Relaxing on pristine beaches, eating phenomenal Greek food, and exploring picturesque towns followed on the islands of Santorini, Paros, and Naxos. It was a romantic and captivating trip they hoped would never end. The couple plans to go on all of "the Moons."
Travel back with us to the drama-filled days of high school - creaky locker doors slamming, wide-eyed freshman scurrying between classes with backpacks much too big, upperclassmen snickering at teachers and students alike, the scent of half-baked cafeteria pizza wafting through the halls...A mutual friend of Sean and Carolyn's was ranting about the TV show "Lost". This is where they first locked eyes, in an unassuming corridor with vinyl-composite flooring and an aura of acne-induced anxieties. Having watched the show religiously every Sunday, they couldn't wait to discuss the latest twist. This was the first of countless, captivating conversations, between the couple. At that precise moment, Sean knew there was something special about her (which he still hasn't quite figured out). Months followed playfully exchanging arm punches as they passed in the school's narrow stairwells. It wasn't until Sophomore year when Sean garnered the courage to ask Carolyn out on their very first date - an ice cream rendevzous in Old Town, Alexandria. After being dropped off by their parents, an ensuing game of "try to hold her hand" started. Sean's hands were sticky from melted ice cream and clammy from finally having a one-on-one with the girl he couldn't stop thinking about. The couple fondly remembers laughing about the latest school-related gossip and whispering sweet nothings to each other on a pier overlooking a calm Potomac River. Their first evening came to a close as Carolyn gingerly pecked Sean on the cheek...
In the days that followed Carolyn waited patiently for Sean to kiss her but he wouldn't (the reasoning still unbeknownst to both), so they parted ways. They remained close friends throughout high school, acting in many a play and musical together. Their chemistry remained strong and would always make each other laugh; however, the timing just wasn't right as Carolyn was distracted with other teenage temptations. Fast-forward to senior year, and the two grew in love upon their journey to college - Sean at JMU and Carolyn at VA Tech. Both enjoyed their respective college experience but the calling for one another remained. They began to visit often. Finally on a fateful day in the Spring of 2010 the two kissed after 4 years of waiting! Years of memorable and not-so-memorable college stories transpired. After graduation they moved back to Northern Virginia and began to date in earnest. Carolyn rediscovered her love of theatre while Sean pursued his wanderlust. Things weren't always perfect, but they both just "knew". Each made compromises for love along the way to achieve the happy and healthy relationship you see today. Carolyn and Sean support each others' dreams, challenge each other to improve, and continue to explore new places and "be in the moment" as much as they can. Being in love with your best friend makes life so magical.
The rest is still unwritten... Join us as we begin writing this chapter of our lives together!
