How We Met

January 2017

We met on a dating app and hit it off through a lot of jokes, conversations about what was going on in the world, and bonding over our shared love of reading. After our first date Alex told one of her friends that Sean talked more than she did and that friend said to marry him. So here we are.

How We Knew

Alex knew Sean was special when two months into dating she asked him to watch the Oscars with her and if he wanted to get dressed up. When he showed up that night in a suit and pulled a filled-out Oscars ballot from his pocket, she knew he was a keeper. She knew he was the person she wanted to spend forever with over the course of several months towards the end of their first year of dating when he was her rock through family illnesses, hard times at work, and the graduate school application process. Sean is the sweetest, most dedicated person, and Alex's best friend and partner for life. Sean knew that this was going to be special when he and Alex had their first full-day date at the cherry blossoms in D.C. Alex and Sean were both a little unsure of what it would be like to spend a whole day together, but after a great day of photos, circling the tidal basin three times, and dinner in Georgetown they soon became inseparable. Over the summer and fall of their first year together, Sean kept imagining a future with Alex and soon enough he couldn't imagine one without her. Alex truly is a partner in every sense of the word. Sean has been constantly impressed by the strength of her love and she has been a constant source of support, inspiration, and care every day. After that first time in April 2017 when Sean chose to spend a day with Alex, he's so glad that he's chosen to spend every day with her from now on. Honorable Mentions: 1. When Sean dug Alex's car out of the snow while she was at work 2. When Alex and Sean kept trying to run into each other at Starbucks instead of telling each other that they wanted to spend more time together 3. When Alex opened Sean's eyes to the wonders that were the 32nd Street Farmer's Market

The Proposal

March 2018

Alex knew the proposal was coming down to the week, but Sean still managed to surprise her. Sean came over wearing a blazer on a Wednesday night after work. Alex jokingly reached in his pockets to find the ring and Sean said that the proposal wasn't happening that night. Unbeknownst to Alex, he knew she'd look in his pockets, so he hid the ring in his bag and subtly retrieved it while she was on the couch. Sean pulled his oldest possession, his baby teddy bear, from his bag and said that the bear was his touchstone that always reminded him of home no matter where he went. He asked Alex if she would accept the bear because now she was his touchstone. Alex said she couldn't take the bear, and Sean asked if she could take something else and pulled the ring out of his pocket.
