Rarely referred to as Erin, Hampe lived in the dorm room next to Katy in their freshman year of college.. and they've been friends ever since. Hamps even helped swipe right on Alex while on a 10 year friendship anniversary trip in Mexico. Since then, Alex was the first to puppy sit Erin's foster fail Jeff, making him one of Erin's favorite Uncle-in-Laws.

Taylor Scott

Best Man

While Taylor is Alex's younger brother, his presence was requested years earlier when Kristen and Alex humbly insisted on having another sibling. Although he made the wrong choice, picking Kristen's alma matter over Alex's, the two of them have shared over 30 years of memories together from catching snakes in the backyard to taking cross country road trips. He's the best and only little brother that Alex could ask for.

Mother of the Bride

Born and raised in Toronto, Alice Gynn met Dave Messenger at the University of Waterloo and shortly after graduation got married. She was fortunate to raise two amazing kids and make lifelong friends throughout all of her moves to North Carolina, Ontario, Kentucky, and finally Wisconsin. She's been thoroughly enjoying her recent retirement and can't wait to celebrate at her daughter's wedding!

Diane Scott

Mother of the Groom

Born and raised in Chicago, Diane Wilson was fortunate to grow up visiting her parents as they lived in Guatemala, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Kenya. She met Curtis Scott while at Brown University and the two of them married and eventually settled in Virginia where they raised their three kids Kristen, Alex, and Taylor.

David Messenger

Father of the Bride

Born and raised in London Ontario, Dave met Alice while at the University of Waterloo. Shortly after university, they got married and Dave started his career in the underwear industry - which would help facilitate the family's moves across the south and midwest.

Curtis Scott

Father of the Groom

Born and raised in Detroit "Motor City," Michigan, Curtis has always shared his passion for automobiles with Alex. Detroit is also the home of Motown Records and Alex has fond memories of listening to the classic "soul" musicians with his father. Curtis has spent his career in HR and currently lives in Virginia with Alex's mother, Diane.

Kristen Bell

Bridesmaid

As Alex's favorite and only big sister, Kristen's forever been an inspiration for Alex. They've shared memories of snow days sledding down their favorite neighborhood hills, attempting - and fabulously failing - to make homemade candies, and playing intense games of UNO. Her musical and academic accomplishments continually motivate Alex to push himself in similar pursuits, as she's performed in multiple productions as a singer and pianist. She continues to be an inspiration as she manages teaching and caring for her precious kids, Alain and Ruby.

Robert Messenger

Katy has known Rob since before he was born as she named him in the womb - before his parents were aware of his sex and fortunately, before they had agreed on a name. Since then, they've bonded over long drives to Canada, moving around the country, and both attending and loving the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Despite Rob's constant beat-boxing in literally any situation, the two remain close, continually recipe share and try to see each other as much as they can.

Ann Smart

One of Katy's earliest friends from UW Madison, Ann's first introduction to Katy was filled with laughter and smiles - which adequately describes Ann's positive nature to this day. Despite moving after graduation, they've been fortunate to stay close, visiting each other and traveling to Vegas and Mexico throughout the years. Ann helped swipe right on Alex's profile while at the girls' 10 years friendship anniversary trip and hosted a few wonderful socially distant hangouts throughout quarantine - full of tie-dye, fire pits, and pool drinking games.

Danny Ubilla

Groomsman

Danny and Alex grew up together in Virginia and have been friends since Elementary school. While they attended different colleges, the two would be reunited later in life when Danny moved to Massachusetts in 2008. They lived together in Somerville, MA for two years and hosted countless "College Football Saturday" parties with friends and neighbors. Danny currently lives in New York City with his wife, Holly, and their two sons, Owen and Clark.

Sarah Boritzke

While the Messengers didn't formally meet Sarah until years later, her family ties meant that she attended the same semi-annual Redefined concerts that Robert sang in throughout his time at UW Madison. Since Rob and Sarah started dating years later, she was a welcome addition to the family, keeping Rob busy through hikes, camping, and walks with their favorite pup Kaia. She's helped us celebrate numerous family holidays and trips - including the infamous Mess Mates 2020 cruise, who can forget?!

Mike Diaz

Mike and Alex have been friends their entire lives and spent years on the basketball court and the marching band field. Mike has a certain sense of humor that often leads Alex to uncontrollable laughter, which will definitely be on display throughout the wedding weekend. Alex and Mike were also roommates for three years during their undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech. Mike currently lives in Michigan with his wife, Kim, and their daughters, Rebecca and Kate.

Grace Meilen

Katy's first interaction with Grace was actually through email - Grace was moving to the city for her first full time job and Katy was fortunate to be her point of contact. It only took a short time working together to realize that they both had a love for cooking, baking, hosting, and board games - starting a beautiful friendship of dinner parties, laughter, constant love and encouragement.

Carlo Randise-Hinchliff

Carlo and Alex met in graduate school at Northwestern University while studying for their PhDs and quickly became close friends. Naturally, their friendship grew around their love for sports, concerts, and barbecue. Alex was humbled to be a part of Carlo's wedding (as the Master of Ceremonies) and can't wait to have Carlo stand by his side. Carlo and his wife, Marzieh, left the cold winters of Chicago for sunny San Diego and Alex is looking forward to a surfing lesson as soon as possible.

Taison Bell

Taison is Katy and Alex’s brother-in-law who works as a physician on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight. Many years prior to 2020; Alex, Taison, and Kristen were fortunate enough to live near each other in Cambridge, MA. The trio bonded over monthly brunches with friends, which was a welcome distraction from Alex’s graduate studies and Taison’s medical residency. Taison has the unique ability to make everyone around him feel loved and we can’t wait to have him officiate our wedding.

Alain is Katy and Alex’s nephew who has a love for legos, math, and all things related to space (especially rocket ships!).

Ruby is Katy and Alex’s niece who loves dancing, climbing, jumping, and eating her aunt and uncle’s homemade guacamole.
