Our Wedding Ceremony

9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Our Marathi wedding ceremony is made up of a many different rituals, all symbolizing the amalgamation of two individuals and their families in their own special way. These rituals are close to our hearts and we have grown up seeing out elders go through them, and today, it is an honor to share ours with you. *** Do not feel compelled to arrive as early as the first puja, however we do request you to shower us with your blessings at the Muhurta ( translates into "the auspicious time").

Ganesh Pujan (Worshipping Lord Ganesha)

9:15 am

The wedding day commences with the worship of Lord ganesha (the God of wisdom and luck), invoking him to bless the couple with a bright obstacle free future

Punyavachan (Arrival of the bride)

9:30 am

The bride's parents then take her to the wedding venue and ask her family to bless their daughter

Seeman Pujan (Honoring the Groom)

10:00 am

The groom arrives at the wedding venue and is received by the bride's mother

Gaurihaar Puja (Worshipping Goddess Parvati)

10:15 am

The bride's maternal uncle gives a gift to the bride, which she then offers to Goddess Parvati (the Goddess of nourishment, harmony and motherhood) for her blessings

Antarpaath (The Holy Curtain) - Muhurtam

10:30 am

The groom dons a holy ornamental thread around his head He is then hidden by a cloth curtain called the antarpath. after a recitation of holy wedding chants, the antarpath is dropped and the bride and groom exchange holy garlands accompanied by showering of blessings

Hastamilaap (Union of two families)

10:45 am

The bride's father gives away his daughter to the groom who accepts her and promises to love his wife forever... and the other way around as well

Mangalsutra (The Holy Thread)

11:00 am

The groom offers a special Holy necklace to the bride and puts a dot of Kumkum on her forehead

Granthi Bandhan (The Marriage Knot)

11:15 am

The groom's sister ties a knot between the garments of the bride and the groom symbolizing the union of two families

Vivah hoam (The Sacred fire)

11:15 am

The priest invokes the Holy fire and the couple offers ghee to the fire. The groom holds the bride's hand and they walk around the fire three times

Saptapadi (Taking 7 steps together)

11:45 am

The couple takes 7 steps together asserting a vow at each step

Karma Samapti - Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi

12:00 pm

The wedding rituals come to an end with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth) until the fire dies down

Lunch

12:15 pm - 2:00 pm

Expect a simple Indian meal with some of our favorite vegetarian curries and desserts!
