How We MetHow We Met

Portland Lobster Company - 9/29/2019

Sara: "Imagine having a bad day, like a REALLY bad one, and a friend invites you out to meet up with some friends and in a single instance you feel like everything might be okay… "I met a boy at Portland Lobster Company on Sunday, September 29th 2019. We exchanged few words, danced independently and realized circles were small. He invited me to Gritty’s after PLC. I invited him to my Penthouse after Gritty's. We exchanged our ‘brochures’ on the short walk to my place and my unsuspecting roommate almost beheaded us with a fishing pole when we startled him on the way to the rooftop deck. "The meeting was brief, sparks flew, and things felt unfinished. "Six months went by in a flash and we found ourselves in the Covid lockdown and realized how very fortunate we were to have each other. We watched late-night movies, skied & rode our butts off, streamed Phish, went North upta Camp and West to Oregon & Colorado, and South to Atlantic City and Cape Charles and not ALL for Phish! ;) "We pushed and pulled and knocked down walls that helped us build a relationship built on trust, respect, appreciation – and eventually LOVE. "I loved him first and cannot wait to love him forever." Ryan: "Yup." ------------------------------------------------ Ryan: "Haha, Sara. As if all I'd say is 'Yup.' Although.... if I think about it a bit... yeah... it might actually be quite apropos. "Sure, it could be read as 'Uh-huh' in a half-assed, 'what she said' kinda way. Or... now hear me out... it could also be read as an enthusiastic and emphatic affirmation stated so succinctly and matter-of-fact as to provide the reader with a clear, definitive confirmation of absolute, whole-assed agreement. "If you need help 'hearing" the way I’m saying 'Yup!' should be read, think of Dale Dolback's immediate response when Brennen Huff, his new step brother, at first standoffish, then briefly adversarial, but ultimately downright endearing, asks him, 'Did we just become best friends?!?!' - That's how I want my 'Yup!' to be read. "And in another way it fits is that I’ve described my relationship with Sara - and my decision to marry her - as shockingly easy. Most of the reason I was a 40 year old bachelor was indecisiveness, fear, worry, doubt, and just plain overthinking. I mean yeah, it did take me a little while to fully open up and commit to her, but since I did, it’s amazing how natural it feels. It’s just right. It’s simple. It’s easy. A given. Obvious. It’s yes, yep, yup. It just is. It’s love. "And it’s true what she said about how we met at PLC and the months that followed. She said it well. Better than I could. So instead of me repeating the 'how' of us meeting, or the 'where' and 'when,' I want to finish by trying to convey the 'why.' At least for me. "We met because we were attracted to each other. We respected each other’s previous lives and were both ready to start a new one. We met because we needed each other. Because we each support other people and need a little support ourselves. We met because life is a little good and a little bad, a little dark and a little light, a little iPhone and a little Android. But these opposites attract. The push and pull brings balance. And together we are better. "She loved me first and for that I am eternally grateful to be able to love her last." ChatGPT: “I've edited your draft to sound more sincere. Would you like me to format this for Word or HTML so you can copy/paste right into the website?” Ryan: "Just kidding. I wrote and meant every word."

For all the days along the way
