In the annals of romantic literature and storytelling few words have been uttered that match the depth of love and devotion quite like Matthew's late-night observation to Sarah back in November of 2012: "You're on my couch..." Who could have known then that these words would be some of the first in the epic Shakespearean tale of Skinner & Smither. As you can see, our goofiness and absurdity knows no bounds, and this silliness is part of what drew us together almost 9 years ago. Sarah was indeed attempting to sleep on Matthew's favorite couch down in Cincinnati. However it was a few hours before that, when Matthew was first introduced to Sarah, that their mutual crush began. And for that reason he needed some excuse to continue to talk to her, a conversation that lasted all night until the sun began to rise. Thus the courtship began, and whether it was climbing the rooftops of CCM on their first date or kayaking the fjords of Scandinavia, their adventurous spirits began to find in each other what they had always been searching for. But like all romantic fairy tales, there would be many challenges ahead and our heroes love would be tested over the next several years. Matthew would take a job and move out to California, while Sarah decided to go back to school and began her studies at Kettering College in Dayton. Their distance relationship would survive through many trials (and even a couple breakups) until Sarah graduated and took a leap of faith and love to move out West and join Matthew. Just a short (AHEM) 3 years later and Matthew would propose (FINALLY). And while the world wrestled with the isolation and anxiety of the pandemic, Matthew would FINALLY take his own leap of faith and love, and up in the pristine beauty near Tuolumne Meadows Matthew asked Sarah for her hand in marriage.
