Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Sarah Huepenbecker and Loren Mead
If you couldn't tell, we are obsessed with Philly. This is a small sample of places to visit, and includes a little something for everyone, from cultural sites to outdoor activities to food (of course, please check for any Covid restrictions prior to visiting). We also suggest checking out uwishunu.com for up-to-date Philadelphia recommendations including restaurants, attractions, and other ideas for the weekend!
Barnes Foundation

Barnes Foundation

2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
, (215) 278-7000

Not only is the Barnes the location of Sarah and Loren's wedding ceremony and reception, but it is has an impressive collection of impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings, as well as a dramatic Philadelphia history. If you are interested in tickets or a docent tour of the collection, please let us know by 4 weeks prior to the wedding. A note to Sarah's former co-residents: the Barnes Foundation has no connection to Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Philadelphia Museum of Art

2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
, (215) 763-8100

Come for the famous Rocky steps, stay for the >240,000 works of art! Sarah's recommendation: the Japanese Tea Garden; Loren's recommendation: the Medieval Arms and Armor collection.

Penn Museum

Penn Museum

3260 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104
, (215) 898-4000

The location of multiple of Sarah's undergrad classes as well as her Penn Med Match Day reveal, Sarah in particular loves the Penn Museum's Native American collection, Egypt Galleries, and Chinese Rotunda.

The Mütter Museum at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia

The Mütter Museum at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia

19 South 22nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103
, (215) 560-8564

A medical museum with amazing (and sometimes creepy) collections of anatomical specimens, models, and medical instruments. Sarah and Loren used to live one block away and visited frequently!

The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute

222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103
, (215) 448-1200

A science museum that pays homage to Philly's favorite Founding Father, the Franklin Institute is a fun, interactive favorite. Sarah's recommendation: pretend to be a blood cell traveling through the giant heart exhibit!

Please Touch Museum

Please Touch Museum

4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA 19131
, (215) 581-3181

Museum of choice (includes a carousel, Space Station, and SEPTA bus) for anyone who brings kids to Philly!

Philadelphia Zoo

Philadelphia Zoo

3400 West Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104
, (215) 243-1100

This is Loren's top recommendation for anyone who lives in or visits Philly! He in particular loves the red pandas and river otters.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

Spruce Street Harbor Park

301 South Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19106
, (215) 922-2386

Located on the Delaware River (the border between Pennsylvania and New Jersey), this is a super cool "urban beach" with food, drink, games, hammocks, boat rentals, and more.

Independence Hall

Independence Hall

520 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
, (215) 965-2305

If you didn't know that Philadelphia is the birthplace of America, you can get your non-Hamilton historical fix starting at Independence Hall, the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.

Love Park

Love Park

Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102
, (215) 686-1776

A public park in Center City that serves as a great photo op (there's a matching LOVE status on Penn's campus!)

Schuylkill River Trail

Schuylkill River Trail

Schuylkill River Trail, Philadelphia, PA

Sarah has trained for multiple Philly races along this trail, and you will likely see high school and college crews rowing by if you visit this path, which has 75 miles of trail extending from South Street to Manayunk and beyond. Pronunciation: SKOO-kill (Dutch for "Hidden River")

Wissahickon Trail

Wissahickon Trail

Wissahickon Bike Trail, Philadelphia, PA

If you want even more miles of trails, connect to this hike and bike trail! It is less crowded than the Schuylkill and will make you feel like you're totally outside of the city.

Reading Terminal Market

Reading Terminal Market

51 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
, (215) 922-2317

Seriously too cool to believe, this indoor public market has ALL the food - Philly specialties, locally grown & exotic produce, meats, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, and confections.

Pat's King of Steaks

Pat's King of Steaks

1237 East Passyunk Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19147
, (215) 468-1546

Honestly, you can get an awesome Philly Cheesesteak from any street vendor, but Pat's claims to have invented the iconic Philly sandwich in 1930. If you want to compare the greats, you can also check out Geno's (right across the street) and Jim's (down the block) and let us know which is your favorite.

For all the days along the way
