One of our favorite spots to visit on the Crystal Coast is the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores! The aquarium holds a special place in our hearts as we grew up going here and Sarah even used to do volunteer work here! We love seeing the sharks, colorful reef creatures, and playful river otters, and the touch tanks are always a fun way to get hands-on with the ocean. It’s such a fun stop for anyone who loves the water and wants to experience a little local wildlife.
If you're like John David and Sarah, you might be looking for a little friendly competition. Lost Treasure Golf in Salter Path is a blast! They have mini golf available on two 18-hole themed courses! You can also take a ride on the mining train, race go-karts, or splash around on bumper boats. We absolutely love it here, and so will you!
Explore the fascinating maritime history of the Crystal Coast! From historic boats to engaging exhibits about sea life and coastal culture, this museum is fun for all ages and perfect for a family outing or a leisurely visit.
If you know John David or Sarah, you know that in their free time, you’ll find them at the beach — soaking up the sun, hunting for seashells, and catching waves. While you’re here, take advantage of the nearby beaches at Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, or along the Beaufort waterfront! We personally love The Point at Emerald Isle and Fort Macon for beach access, but all the beaches along the Crystal Coast — including Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Indian Beach, and Emerald Isle — hold a special place in our hearts. For more outdoor fun, go for a leisurely stroll, watch the sunset, or simply relax and soak in the coastal breeze. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also popular ways to enjoy the harbor and surrounding waterways.
Wander the charming streets of downtown Beaufort to explore waterfront boutiques, artisan shops, and local markets. Perfect for finding a special keepsake or gift to remember your trip! Our favorite shops among Front Street include the Beaudega, Isla Boutique, Island Traders, The General Store, and Kitty Hawk Surf Co. If you're more of a foodie and looking for a great place to eat, we LOVE Dock House Restaurant and Black Sheep Beaufort. Don't forget to stop by the Beaufort Creamery for a sweet treat, they were voted a Top 10 Ice Cream shop by USA Today!
