YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING ARE OUR TOP PRIORITY. WE WILL CONTINUE MONITERING THE COVID-19 SITUATION AND PROVIDE UPDATE. PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN. WE SHOULD BE SENDING INVITATIONS AROUND SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER. ONCE YOU RECEIVE IT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RSVP VIA THE RSVP TAB ON THIS WEBSITE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
The perfect time to book is between 120-150 days out from the wedding. You can track flights and prices on Google Flights and Hopper. If you have any questions in regards to airports, transportation and trajectories, feel free to contact Hector or myself.
As soon as you possibly can! Rooms go quickly, so if you’d like to stay at the Hotel Sofitel Santa Clara where the reception will be held, we suggest booking ASAP to secure your room. We have secured reduced rates for the rooms. To book, either call and mention the wedding follow the instructions on the form in the photos section —it’s the last picture in the photos tab. I might add that though convenient, the Hotel Sofitel Santa Clara may be a bit pricey, so we recommend looking for other hotels or AIRBNB's where you'll be able to book as early as you'd like. There’s plenty of beautiful hotels and AirBNB’s — just make sure your accommodations are within the walls of the Old City! Reach out if you have any questions or need any help or recommendations.
Cartagena is HOT! Although we will be celebrating in the evening time when the Caribbean breeze starts hitting, we would like all our guests to feel elegant, beautiful/handsome, but COMFORTABLE. Therefore, for the ceremony and reception, we'd like the dress code for the women to be colorful, long, flowy dresses and linen, long sleeve guayaberas with khaki pants for the men. Outside of the wedding festivities, if you plan to sightsee, we recommend shorts comfortable shirts/tops and sneakers as there is plenty of walking and cobblestone streets. Bring plenty of sunscreen, sun glasses, hats and carry water. If you plan to travel to the beaches and islands, we recommend your bathing suit, shorts, sandals and plenty of sunscreen. Bring cash as many activities require cash.
Kindly RSVP by the 20th of November before all the holiday madness. Once you receive your invitation by mail you will be able to RSVP for your entire party using the RSVP tab on this website.
You bet! We prefer if you do. In fact, the sooner you let us know if you can make it, the better. But try to do it before Nov. 20th, 2020 (Before all the holiday madness hits). Also, if you don't plan on going....please let us know as well. Go to the 'RSVP' tab as soon as you receive your wedding invite and enter your name just as it appears on the invitation to unlock your RSVP form.
All events will be taking place within the ciudad amurallada/Old city of Cartagena. When booking your stay we recommend hotels and airbnb within the walls of the Old City.
Kids and babies are absolutely welcome and encouraged to come to the wedding ceremony. However, we are currently still making a decision with regards to their presence at the reception. Please check back soon for updates.
If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you. If you didn't receive a +1 and would like to bring one, please by all means let us know beforehand to confirm that we can make this arrangement.
If you received a +1 on your invite and plan on arriving solo, indeed, kindly let us know so we can accommodate everyone the best we can.
In Colombia, they use Colombian Pesos. The exchange rate is about 3,000 COP - 3,600 COP to every $1 USD. Oh, heeeey! 3-to-1 exchange rate! This is just one of many reasons to love your trip to Cartagena. I will say, though, you may feel like you’re spending a lot of money at first because bills are in the thousands and tens of thousands. Most restaurants accept credit cards but street vendors and taxis are cash only. We recommend also taking out cash when you get there. The best way to do this is bringing a debit card and taking cash out of an ATM when you arrive. Check out this link to check conversion rates before you leave! https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/
We don't recommend you to rent a car.. To get around the city, we suggest walking. The old city is so small, you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 minutes. If you’d like to explore the newer part of Cartagena or go outside of the walled city, we suggest taking a taxi. They are cheap and safe, so no need for rentals! Just don't hail taxis from dark corners at night. Hail them in busy landmark areas just to be safe or ask your hotel concierge to call one for you. Also, check with the hotel where you will be staying to see if they provide any shuttle services. Also, if you plan to see more of Cartagena before or after the wedding, also check with your hotel to see if they offer excursion packages.
Three questions in one! Let's break this down. Unfortunately, very recently, the Colombian government banned Uber in Colombia! Crazy! Perhaps they may also ban text messages and return to using telegrams! ...Just kidding. The Good news is that is is relatively safe to hail a taxi from landmarks. Be smart, nonetheless!! "Don't give Papaya" which is an expression in Colombia which means don't ask to be robbed. If you're smart it will be safe. Also, avoid hailing taxis from dark desolate areas at night. Preferably go to a busy landmark or ask your hotel / Restaurant / bar area to call one for you. Taxi drivers have set fares to the most popular destinations, so you should confirm the amount before you leave. Private taxi companies (that work directly with hotels) a will charge a little bit more, but rides are comparatively very inexpensive. Taxis are generally $8.000-$11.000 COP ($4-6 USD) to most spots in walled city.
1. There are many street vendors who are often pesky and insisting . If you're not good at politely saying "No" to them start practicing now. We recommend not to get too excited with items the street vendors sell you because before you know it, you will find vultures. We recommend anything you buy to be in-store to prevent unnecessary irritation. 2. Understand your pesos. Get familiar with the paper money. Don't mix up a 2,000 COP w/ a 20,000 COP. It happens to the best of us. Get familiar with your cash and organize it from small to large. 3. The beaches in Cartagena city aren't the best. Actually, they're murky. If you'd like to see blue, crystalline sand beaches, we recommend day trips to Playa Blanca, Islas del Rosario or Isla Tierra Bomba. The beauty in Cartagena is in it's history, cobblestone streets, rooftop terrace views, colorful balconies, city squares & culture- not the beaches. Thankfully there's pragmatic ways to get to see gorgeous ones! Check our "Things to Do" tab
While the street food is absolutely AMAZING. Resist the temptation in case your stomach may not be used to it. We recommend restaurants....at least until the wedding is over. :) Teehee! Also, by all means do not drink the tap water. If you buy a juice, please ask the waiters/waitress to make sure it's made with filtered water. We want to see you healthy for all the wedding festivities! :)
