Everything was planned for a proposal in Cancun on April 4 th until Covid-19 happened and unfortunately, that trip was no longer possible. Instead, April 4 had turned into another, regular Covid day working and studying from home. It was a Friday night so Damyan picked up a crawfish dinner and we turned on a movie. We tried to forget about the fact that we weren’t on the beach in Cancun while, unbeknownst to me, Damyan also couldn’t stop thinking about how we were supposed to have already been engaged. A few hours and five pounds of crawfish later, we were enjoying Dove chocolates (you know, the square kind with the thick foil wrapper), and Damyan told me he’d make me a promise ring out of the foil. *Now this isn’t as random as it sounds, see I (Sarah) had been making not-so-subtle hints at getting engaged for a while. But on Friday April 4, our conversation started with me asking, “can we just get married already.” Damyan laughed, paused, and told me to “give him a few minutes, I want to make it fun since we haven’t been on a date in weeks.” While this response wasn’t his usual, it wasn’t out of the ordinary either, so I continued to watch the movie. Ten minutes later, Damyan comes back dressed in blazer and button down and his favorite “island girl” socks. I immediately start laughing, thinking we REALLY need to get out of the house. Damyan discretely sets up his phone across the room to record and walks over to the couch and gets down on one knee holding a foil candy wrapper ring. He nervously says my full name and puts the candy wrapper on my finger. Then, he gets out a REAL engagement ring and *I only remember the rest from watching our video* immediately start bawling. I was so shocked I didn’t say yes for a whole three minutes until I managed a resounding YES between sobs.
