This place was in Urban Cowboy --- if you're a fan. If not, great spot for two steppin'!
Hamilton Pool
It's a bit of a drive... but definitely a fun place to visit. Bring a folding chair, a towel and some snacks -- it's great for picnics and for swimming!
Natural Bridge Caverns
If it's super hot out and you need a break, check out these caverns!
Lockhart
This place is considered to be the "BBQ capitol" of Texas. We love stopping at either Black's or Smitty's. Don't feel like making the drive? There's a Black's food truck in Gruene and another location in San Marcos. It's also the town from season 2 of The Leftovers on HBO!
Canyon Lake
If you want a nice, calm lake day... check this place out (but remember to bring your own beverages and cash).
Phoenix Saloon

We've been to this restaurant several times over the year and you cannot beat the ambiance. You can eat dinner while overlooking the Guadalupe -- it's gorgeous!
San Antonio River Walk
If you're missing the noise of a city, take a short drive to San Antonio! The River Walk is truly a great way to pass a day (and night)!

There are literally so many wineries in Gruene. But, if you want a more spacious space then you should definitely check out Duchman Family Winery for some great white wines!
