My roommate, Kristen, introduced Andrew and me the beginning of my fourth year of medical school in Houston. If Andrew and I were smart, we might not have started dating because of the terrible timing—I would be particpating in the match a mere six months later and could end up anywhere, and indeed ended up thousands of miles away. In fact one friend stated when I was getting ready to go out with Andrew to encourage me to stop thinking so much, “Sarah, you dont have to marry him...” Luckily we didn’t overthink in this one instance and we easily fell into sync and into love. I mean I helped him potty train his new giant puppy just months into dating, proving just how much I was into this guy from the very beginning.
Andrew and I picked out the ring together over the New Year holiday, so I had a good idea it was coming. But I thought it would be much later, on say, a vacation with his parents on the Aegean sea. When I let slip my suspicions he had to secretly abort plan Greece and catch me off guard. Which he did, I had no idea when I landed in Houston after my long flight from Hawaii and threw on something for dinner he had planned to ask me. He proposed where his father proposed to his mom as they also met in Houston, in front of the beautiful waterfall. He had Hannah Forrester, little sister to one of his best friends Isaac, hiding in wait with her camera to capture the candid moment—which is why we have these beautiful photos. We then ate at my favorite sezchuan restaurant in Houston (cooking girl—you really must go if in town). We capped off with meeting friends at a wine bar and he had my best friend (and MOH) fly in to surprise me! A+
