Up on the 14th floor of a building in the Garment District, sandwiched between a fabric store and sewing company is a dance studio. It is a cheap dance studio where two people met who weren’t dancing. Instead, they were at improv comedy practice, which involves much less physical movement, and even less dignity. Jason was on an improv comedy team approved by no one but enjoyed by many (just their friends). Sarah had a couple of friends on the team who had asked her to join them. On January 14, 2017, Sarah arrived wearing a green flannel and combat boots. She was early because despite her inability to get to work on time, she couldn’t fathom being late to an improv practice. Jason arrived late, in a ripped band t-shirt, eating a bag of Fritos. He introduced himself to Sarah by shaking the bag of Fritos and grumbling “lunch”, in a way that made Sarah wonder if this man was ok. Neither of them knew this was the moment they were meeting the most important person in their lives. Over weeks of seeing each other at parties and get-togethers, the two got to know each other. One night at a friend's party, Sarah asked Jason to explain the plot of the Harry Potter series because she was “never going to read it”, and Jason talked about it for one hour while Sarah nodded. As they continued to talk all night, they realized the gravity of their new relationship, and that this person was about to change their lives. So they snuck away to the roof of their friend's apartment, and had their first kiss. After their rooftop kiss, the group watched an episode of a TV show simply called, “The Dumpster Episode”. Sarah watched Jason instead. Jason laughed at the TV, and suddenly Sarah had a vision in her mind of him smiling exactly like that, wearing a gray suit in front of a floral arbor, on a hillside. In October, Sarah and Jason will smile at each other, he in a suit and she in a dress, in front of a floral arbor, in an old factory (hillsides are less practical).
When Sarah and Jason moved in together, they found a one-bedroom apartment on the Upper East Side. They often enjoyed taking walks through Central Park, discovering for themselves its hidden treasures and pockets of beauty. On March 27, 2021, Jason proposed to Sarah in Central Park, in the North Woods, a woodland area with beautiful rustic bridges and ample birdwatching. She said yes on one of those beautiful rustic bridges, two days before their 4th dating-anniversary. They captured the moment with the help of their friends Dani and Rachelle. There were many bird watchers with cameras in the area, so Sarah did not notice her friend Dani waiting for them with her camera. Rachelle brought out a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and had arranged a picnic blanket overlooking a waterfall, where Jason and Sarah celebrated the beginning of their next chapter.
