Flight
Out of town guests should fly to/from Lisbon airport. Coming from the U.S.? TAP, a Portuguese airline, has a plethora of direct flights from Boston, Miami, and Newark daily. America Airlines and United also have some direct flights to/from select U.S. Cities throughout the summer.
Rental Car
Uber, Lyft, Bolt and Taxis are easily available to/from the airport. Downtown Sintra is very walkable. On the day of the wedding a shuttle will be provided between the wedding venue and downtown Sintra for our out of town guests. If you do choose to rent a car there is ample parking at the wedding venue, but please confirm with your hotel that they have parking available (limited parking capacity is common in some areas).
Travel Note
We recommend the four hotels listed below because they are in downtown Sintra, walkable to one another, and central to where we will run a bus to/from for the wedding venue. This noted, there are a lot of hotels and Airbnb's to explore, so don't feel obliged to stay in any particular place. You could stay in downtown Lisbon and Uber to/from the wedding venue (40ish minutes), or by the beach in Cascais (30ish minutes). The choice is yours!

Travel Note
Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and a must-see! It's an easy and safe train ride from Sintra and you can explore all the beauties of the city! There is a lot of information online, but here are some key places you need to explore: Praça do Comércio, Rossio, Avenida da Liberdade, Chiado, Convento do Carmo, Castelo de São Jorge, Sé de Lisboa, Igreja de Santo António (and many other churches in Portugal if you like churches!), Igreja de São Vicente de Fora and many different outlooks. Lisbon is very hilly, so make sure to grab a beer or glass of wine here and there, and wear comfortable shoes. Explore Belém! Belém is a must-see in Portugal, with beautiful monuments and the typical factory of Pastéis de Nata (one is not enough, two are okay, and three is the way to go!). Jerónimos, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, rent a scooter and ride along the river Rio Tejo. If you have the time, take a sunset cruise! Explore the Expo 1998 part of the city, where Lisbon hosted the World Exhibition in 1998. If you have children, go to the Oceanarium! One of the largest in Europe. IMPORTANT - June is the month of the FESTAS DE LISBOA (The festivities of Lisbon!), which means that the city is even more beautiful and vibrant than normal. You will find small gatherings on every corner, live music and people dancing in the street late at night until early in the morning, an amazing smell of food and sardines, and a very unique atmosphere. Eric had his first Festas de Lisboa experience in the summer of 2022 and he wants to go back every year! Explore Alfama, the top neighborhood to live your Festas de Lisboa experience. You won't be disappointed.
Travel Note
If you are in Portugal, you can't miss Cascais! Cascais is one of the most beautiful seaside towns (in the world). It is an easy 30 min train ride along the gorgeous coastline from Lisbon, or 25 minutes by car / bus from Sintra. Whether you want to lay on a beach, shop till you drop, or dive into art, history, culture, or ice cream, Cascais offers plenty to keep you busy. Explore the Market, the Baía dos Pescadores (Bay of the Fisherman), Marine, all the coast line and if you are adventurous enough go to Boca do Inferno - Hell's Mouth - is a chasm located in the seaside cliffs. The seawater has access to the deep bottom of the chasm and vigorously strikes its rocky walls, making it a popular tourist attraction. Next, rent a scooter and go to Guincho. The beach, which has a shoreline of approximately 800 meters, has preferred surfing conditions and is popular for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. Be ready for strong northern winds in June! Go to Bar do Guincho (the bar, of course!) - Susana and Eric never miss it!
