Samuel and Melanie met in Charlottesville, Virginia, at South and Central Latin Night on February 8, 2024—shortly after Melanie arrived in town for a nursing contract at UVA. Samuel insists Melanie fell for his dance moves; Melanie insists that is a bold and deeply optimistic interpretation of events. What IS true is that their eyes met across the dance floor, Melanie twirled past at just the right moment, and Samuel immediately set out to find her and start a conversation. With hearts racing, they talked about the things that mattered most—faith, family, and the simple joys that make life meaningful. Melanie drove home that night, called her sister and said, without hesitation, “I just met my husband.” Their first date only reinforced that suspicion. While walking the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, a group of students stopped them to ask how long they had been married (it was date number one.) By day three, Melanie had already met Sam's parents. From the beginning, their relationship has been marked by laughter, deep faith, and an unmistakable sense that they were building something together. Samuel proposed on April 11, 2025, along the Lake Michigan waterfront in Chicago just ahead of Melanie’s 30th birthday. What appeared to Melanie as a casual birthday trip was, in reality, a carefully orchestrated three-week production involving a matching dress, a custom ring, a photographer with a long lens, three handwritten letters, strategically placed friends and family, and parents FaceTiming in from afar. Melanie was expertly and lovingly misled for weeks—and utterly shocked when the moment finally arrived. Since then, life has moved fast, bringing major surgeries, moves across state lines, an entire year of long distance, and job changes, but through every transition their commitment has only grown—rooted in faith, strengthened by resilience, and guided by the certainty that they are meant to walk through life together. They can’t wait to celebrate with family and friends on May 16th, 2026, in Ruckersville/Stanardsville, Virginia.
