Located just outside of the West Entrance to Glacier National Park, this is a fun stop for some souvenirs, huckleberry ice cream, or fudge!
The Trail of the Cedars, one of two wheelchair-accessible trails in Glacier National Park, is a one-mile loop hike that begins and ends on the Going-To-The-Sun Road, located 5.5 miles east of the Lake McDonald Lodge. Obviously you can start from either side, but most people begin their hike by proceeding along the eastern portion of the loop. This side of the loop travels along a raised boardwalk, and passes through a forest of ancient western red cedars and western hemlocks. At roughly the half-way point you'll reach one of the highlights of the trail, a footbridge over Avalanche Creek that provides commanding views of the lower Avalanche Gorge.
Taking the drive along this road is an absolute must!! You'll see the most beautiful scenery, waterfalls, and wildlife! If you plan to access the park between the hours of 6am - 4pm, be sure to get a car reservation! More detailed information can be found on our Travel page.
One of our favorite lakes with a beach-like entrance, designated swim area, and floating dock. The bottom is rocky though, so we recommend water shoes to protect your tootsies.
This place closes every day at 2pm so be sure to swing by early for breakfast or a slice of huckleberry pie!
This is a great spot to blow up some floaties and enjoy a dip in the water!
This is quite a drive (much on gravel roads) but a delicious huckleberry bear claw awaits! This is technically outside of the park but if you've made your way this far, you're really close to the North Fork Entrance and Bowman Lake.
A little remote and another bumpy ride, but just 20 minutes beyond Polebridge Mercantile. Bowman Lake is pictured above! You'll need a North Fork Car Reservation Pass to enter this part of the park.
