Let's get married!

As two young Jewish twenty-somethings, Elie and Sam frequently attended Jewish young adult events in Minneapolis. One Wednesday night in August 2022, they were introduced at a Tu B’Av (Jewish Valentine’s Day) party at a North Loop rooftop. Elie and Sam’s mutual and grammatically talented friend, Elana, introduced them, and they spent the rest of the night schmoozing. Were there sparks because of Tu B’Av? Well, Sam definitely thought so; Elie left thinking she had just made a new friend. The next day, Sam slid into Elie’s DMs on Instagram, and they began messaging back and forth constantly. By Saturday, they went on their first date at Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge z”l (may her memory be a blessing), and even though Sam was 30 minutes late, they hit it off and stayed out till 2 am. Elie and Sam kept going on dates for the next couple of weeks and stopped counting by date four. They realized during these first few dates that their paths had crossed and they had friends in common. Back in 2017, Elie and Sam met at a friend’s high school graduation party, but neither of them remembers meeting. In 2019, Sam visited a friend at Herzl Camp and brought Chipotle for her and some of her friends, including Elie. Sam remembered eating their burritos together in the Chadar Basement — he pulled up the text receipt on their first date. Elie remembers eating her burrito, but has no recollection of Sam buying it (or even being there). Blame Herzl Camp’s visitor’s day (#IYKYK). Another coincidence, or moment of destiny (if you are sappy like Sam), is that Elie and Gigi (Sam’s sister) worked together at Herzl Camp for part of the summer in 2018. Gigi loves to remind Elie and Sam that she knew Elie first. Also, Sam went on Birthright with Abby (Elie’s cousin) in 2019. Abby loves to share this fun fact. Elie and Sam became official in early September, about a month after meeting. Since then, they have gone on countless walks, several vacations, sporting events, concerts, and plenty of theatrical productions! Elie and Sam officially moved in together in February 2024, and in early 2025, they were talking about taking the next step. By July, Sam had purchased an engagement ring and begun planning his proposal. On September 13th, 2025, Sam proposed to Elie in the Japanese garden at the Como Zoo, followed by a surprise engagement party. Through all the tears, Elie managed to orate “yes,” and now you are coming to their wedding!
