Sam and Becca met in school. He stood out to her because by the end of the first week he had easily become friends with every person in their class. He noticed her because he sat behind her and thought the back of her head was ridiculous (remember that pop culture reference?). That went on for about six months until Sam's friend came up to Becca and said "Hey, Sam likes you. Do you like him?" And no, they were not in seventh grade, this was graduate school. She brushed it off, saying "No, he doesn't. We're just friends". Flash forward another 4 months under the romance of Kelly's Bar in Westport- where the right combination of 32 oz Busch Lights, an 80s rock cover band and a sticky dance floor made something click between the two. And they never looked back.
On March 16, 2018, after four months of interviews, Sam and Becca were due to find out which internal medicine program had selected them for their residency training- a process known as Match Day (fitting right?). It was a highly anticipated day that both of their parents had come to see so they could all find out together where they would be spending their next three years (and if they would be going together). While Becca was getting ready in her apartment for the Match Day Ceremony, she heard someone trying to open her door. Thinking someone was breaking in, she poked her head out from the bathroom and was relieved to see it was just Sam. He asked her "are you ready for Match Day?" She said, "yeah, I guess." He pulled a box out from behind his back and then it suddenly became obvious why he was "breaking in". There were tears and hugs and a beautiful ring involved. But the cherry on top was when they found out they would both be heading to their first choice of residency program in Des Moines, Iowa. A perfect match.
