Wedding Party & Jewish Customs

Circling: The bride & groom circle each other, completing a final circle together. This reminds us they are building a new life together & marriage is itself a process.
Chuppah (Wedding Canopy): Covered by a tallit (prayer shawl) of special meaning to the couple, this represents the couple building a home together. With no walls, it signifies that family & friends are always welcome in the couple's home.
Rings (solid, no breaks/stones): Rings signify the wholeness & union of marriage. They are placed on the right index finger given ancient belief that it is connected directly to the heart.
Sheva Brachot (Seven Blessings): Recited by family & friends of the couple offering a roadmap for building their life together.
Ketubah: Marriage contract.
Breaking the Glass: A reminder of tragedies endured over history & of the delicate nature of marriage - to always be cared for & cherished. Once broken, guests may wish congratulations & good luck by exclaiming "mazel tov" & "siman tov".
