This 31-mile linear park is home to the longest recreational bridge in Virginia, which sits 125 feet above the Appomattox River. The trail was once a railway, part of the South Side Railroad, in the mid-1800s. For those staying in Farmville, the park is located ~5 miles away from the hotel we recommended.

E.E. Vaughan is Sallie's great-grandfather, and "& Son" refers to Sallie's grandfather. Today, at the young age of 75, Sallie's father, Charles, continues to run the family's 105-year-old hardware, feed, and seed store, just a short walk from Sallie's childhood home. If you're visiting Lawrenceville, be sure to stop by -- it's one of the few businesses still open in town. Charles is still hoping one of his children will take over the store, but so far, no luck with any of the four. Stevi is the closest you'll get to someone showing interest!
