Balboa Park
Think of Balboa Park as San Diego's version of Central Park — but with more museums, more culture, and a world-famous zoo thrown in. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon soaking up the city's heart.
San Diego Zoo
One of the most celebrated zoos in the world, and it earns the title. Giant pandas, polar bears, and hundreds of incredible animals await — set aside a good chunk of the day because you'll want to see it all.
Old Town San Diego
The birthplace of California, and still full of character. As the oldest settled area in San Diego and the site of the first European settlement on the West Coast, Old Town is a fun mix of history, colorful architecture, and great Mexican food.
Little Italy
One of our favorite neighborhoods in the city — lively, walkable, and full of great food and drinks. Don't miss Ballast Point Brewery, Rovino Restaurant + Bar, or Bencotto for dinner. Bonus: there's a fantastic farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!
Gaslamp Quarter
San Diego's go-to destination for a night out. Whether you're in the mood for grabbing dinner or drinks, or enjoying live music, the Gaslamp Quarter has something for everyone.
Sunset Cliffs
The name says it all. Pull up a spot along the dramatic coastal cliffs and watch the sun melt into the Pacific — it never gets old. Keep an eye out for sea lions lounging on the rocks below!
Hotel del Coronado
An iconic San Diego landmark with a stunning beachfront setting. Even if you're not staying here, it's worth a visit to stroll the beach and explore the cute boutiques in the Coronado neighborhood nearby.
La Jolla Shores Beach & Cove
Beautiful, scenic, and endlessly postcard-worthy. La Jolla is one of San Diego's most stunning coastal areas, and the beach is perfect for kayaking and snorkeling. It can get busy, but the views make it well worth it. You can meet wild sea lions & seals at La Jolla Cove.
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
A gorgeous coastal hike that winds through a nature reserve and ends at a secluded beach. The trail offers breathtaking views along the way — a perfect outdoor adventure if you want to get away from the crowds.
Belmont Park
Pure, classic fun. This historic oceanfront amusement park in Mission Beach features a vintage wooden roller coaster, carnival games, and that laid-back beachside boardwalk energy that San Diego does so well.
North Park
One of San Diego's most beloved neighborhoods — a little bit quirky, a little bit cool, and full of great craft beer, coffee, and live music. Make sure to stop by Dark Horse Coffee Roasters while you're there!
Convoy Street
San Diego's hub for Asian food. Chak grew up making weekend dim sum runs with his family at Emerald Restaurant, a tradition we'd highly recommend carrying on.
Tacos El Gordo
If you only eat tacos once in San Diego, make it here. Rooted in Tijuana tradition, Tacos El Gordo is the real deal — and Chak's personal go-to order is the carne asada and lengua. Saki went to this place 4 times during her stay in SD. Trust us on this one.
An's Dry Cleaning
This is a popular local gelato shop cleverly disguised as a dry cleaning store. First-timers can enjoy a tasting tour. Chak's favorite part is the palate cleanser right at the start. This spot holds a special place for us, we stopped in here right after our court ceremony!
Cocina 35 Brunch
Our favorite brunch place, and you can get the best chilaquiles in San Diego — with so many varieties to choose from, it's hard to pick just one. Fair warning: it's popular, so expect a short wait. Located in Liberty Station, a beautifully transformed former naval base that's now a vibrant food and community hub. Multiple locations across the city too!
