Safia’s OG life partner. Best friends, assigned at birth or sometime after. As a kid, Safia spent one week every summer in Westchester at her aunts house playing Sega Genesis with Tara and watching Bob Ross and Bollywood movies. As a teenager, Tara spent so many weekends sneaking up to Binghamton (sorry Aunty Klema) to visit Safia that she is an honorary Bearcat. Tara knew Safia liked Kevin when Safia still disliked Kevin and Safia had a dream Tara was pregnant 2 days before she found out that she was. They have been by each others side, in spirit if not physically, for every milestone other than Safia learning to walk and talk but that’s only because Tara wasn't born yet.
Alea Khan

Alea is Safia’s big sister. Not her twin. I know it can be confusing since they have basically the same face. Growing up, Alea was Safia’s teacher, musical director, and sometimes boss, making Safia go along with plays, music videos, and monsterpiece theater productions, but don’t call Safia a monster because she’s not a monster. Safia only knows how to make phone calls because of Alea, a very under appreciated millennial skill. Alea has been Safia’s biggest fan for years - not those first like 20 years when Safia was the annoying little sister, but now that she’s cool and funny because her sister shaped her this way. Safia attributes her personality and amazing taste in pop music to her big sister.
Zaynah Bacchus

Zaynah was Safia’s first friend. Safia doesn’t remember that first meeting because she was like 11 months old. She imagines they already had a secret handshake. They were inseparable, with lots of viewings of Xena: Warrior Princess and swing set performances of the Little Mermaid soundtrack. Until Zaynah moved to Long Island when they were 7 and 6, respectively, so if you’ve ever wondered why Safia hates Long Island so much, now it all makes sense. Long Island took her best friend. Stupid Long Island. Anyway. Now Zaynah lives in Florida which is arguably worse.
Janessa Pietrucha

Safia met Janessa on the first day of Binghamton's freshman orientation. Janessa heard Safia well before she ever saw her and said to her parents “that girl is loud”. Thanks to Safia's dad and Janessa's freshman roommate’s untied shoelaces, they became fast best friends and Janessa even decided to live with said loud girl one year later. It was the best living arrangement Safia could ask for and she cant wait for them to be roommates at the retirement home in 50 years. Kevin can sleep on the floor.
Hannah Wright

Hannah was Safia's legal assistant when they worked together at the Missouri Department of Social Services. Safia has a tendency to adopt introverts and force them to love her (case in point, Kevin) and Hannah was her first test. While they are very much opposites, Hannah has reluctantly agreed to be Safia’s life long friend because she doesn't have a choice.
Monica Dermarkar

On the first day of law school, Monica asked Safia if she could sit next to her in Torts because she allegedly had a kind face. Somehow Monica saw past Safia’s RBF and before long they were best friends. The best memories from law school were all the lunches with Monica and the rest of their gang in the courtyard sharing laughs, jossip (not a typo), and fries, Halloween parties that may or may not have made Above the Law, and their bar trip to Barcelona. Safia would never have survived becoming a lawyer or even a young adult without Monica by her side.
Asma Khan

Asma is the youngest of the 3 Muskateers, along with Zaynah. Asma has always been like a little sister to Safia, right down to tattling on her and not sharing her strawberries and pickles. Like most little sisters, she grew out of being annoying. She still probably wouldn't share her pickles though. Some habits die hard.
Savanna Khan
Flower Girl
Savanna is Safia’s smart, beautiful and assertive niece. She is a big fan of Kevin all because he called a squishmallow a marshmallow, but as Savanna pointed out, it is not a marshmallow. Safia knew this. So Safia is not sure why Savanna is more excited to see Kevin who doesn't even know the difference between a squishmallow and a marshmallow. But whatever. She’s not salty about it or anything.
