Like most old(er) couples, we met online. No shame, it's probably the best way to meet people after college. Once they matched, Matt knew he had to play it cool. After a few cheesy pick up lines and awkward discussions, we decided to go out on a date. Upon arriving at the date, Matt thought "Crap she's way out of my league", while Melissa thought "What the hell did I get myself into". It was at these crossroads where we realized we had a lot in common. Melissa lives a very active lifestyle. She loves going to the gym, working out, going on hikes, and considers herself a foodie...Matt likes Taco Bell. Matt loves Red Wings hockey, Michigan football and the Detroit Lions... Melissa once played basketball and mini golf. Melissa loves Disney and Harry Potter...Matt has never watched a Harry Potter movie in his life. Clearly this was a match made in heaven. Beyond the likes and dislikes, we quickly discovered a few coincidences: we were both in Alaska on separate cruises around the same time in 2018. We both attended college at Grand Valley at the same time and never crossed paths. In October 2019, we both were at Disney World at the exact same time. Melissa was able to light a spark in Matt and helped him start on a fitness journey which continues today; and while it may not look like it, he's made a lot of progress. She was able to get Matt to open up to activities he never would have done on his own. Matt has an uncanny ability to keep Melissa grounded and helped her unlock balance in many aspects of her life. While we may not have 100% of everything in common, we compliment each other and pick each other up with our love. We challenge each other, we support each other, and above all - we love each other. We're a team, and while some people say oil and water don't mix, we say you need both in order to make a damn good salad dressing.
