La Sagrada Familia is a MUST see if it's your first time visiting Barcelona! It is an architectural masterpiece and is gorgeous. We would recommend getting a ticket with a guide to learn all of the little details that make this church so special. We recommend booking your tickets in advance as they sell out often.
Park Güell is an enormous garden with stunning architectural elements designed by Antoni Gaudí. We recommend walking around the park, seeing "El Drac," taking in the views, and spending some time in our favorite area of the park: The Three Viaducts (our favorite part is sitting in one of the top level benches). We recommend booking your tickets in advance for this.
The charming Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gòtic, has narrow medieval streets filled with trendy bars, clubs and Catalan restaurants. Get lost in the narrow streets and wonder of an older era! We would recommend trying to visit the Temple of Augustus (incredible Corinthian columns and is a monument from the first century BC), Plaça Sant Felip Neri, and Puerta del Bisbe
Located in the Gothic Quarter, this gothic cathedral was constructed from the thirteenth to fifteenth centuries.
Tibidabo is a hill overlooking Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. There are great views from up here and on the summit of the hill there is the Sagrat Cor church and Tibidabo Amusement Park (with a ferris wheel!)
The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria is a large public market with tons of food and is so fun to wander around and explore. Grab some fresh fruit, small bites, and enjoy the hustle and bustle.
The Arc de Triomf is a memorial arch in Barcelona, Spain. It was built by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair!
La Rambla is a roughly 1.5km pedestrianized boulevard from Plaça Catalunya to Port Vell. It's filled with florist shops, candy stalls, gelaterías, and more! It's a touristy area so make sure to watch out for pickpocketing.
These fountains create a light show at night! Typically in the summer the shows are at 9:30pm and 10:30pm Wednesday-Sunday (we'll update the times closer to June 2025 so they're accurate). Just grab a seat or stand nearby and watch the magic of the fountains!
If you're craving some water, go to the beach! This is a great beach with tons of sand and Mediterranean waves.
In our travels, one of our favorite activities is to do a walking tour of the city. We generally do this on the first day to learn the layout, history, and local places to eat. They are always a highlight of the trip! We would highly recommend signing up for one of Sandeman's free tours. Don't forget to bring some Euros to tip! The free walking tour starts just outside the Jaume I Metro Exit in front of Hotel Suizo.
This is Sabrina's FAVORITE churro y chocolate place in Barcelona. And she's tried a lot, so this is saying something! Highly recommend getting churros y chocolate con nata (with whipped cream- it's homemade and so fluffy).
This is one of Sabrina's family's favorite tapas restaurants in Barcelona! We recommend the croquetas, patatas bravas, tortilla Española, and saving room for dessert. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here!
This is an incredible tapas dinner restaurant located in the gothic quarters. It's no reservation and best for groups of 2-5 given the limited seating. It's a preset 8 tapas menu with appetizers and post dinner digestive drinks. You can let them know if you have any food allergies and they will accommodate it. They can make the tapas vegetarian upon request, and if you don't like a dish, they'll make you another! We stumbled upon this spot when we were in Barcelona and LOVED it!
Come here for the creamiest gelato ever!! Highly recommend the extra dark chocolate with sea salt, bilmonte (mixed nuts), and pistachio flavors. They also have fun "drizzles" of chocolate, pistachio, and their version of nutella to top. Unfortunately, not vegan friendly.
Okay... this is not a Spanish breakfast... but if you're craving a little bit of California, you should grab a smoothie, acai bowl, or any of their other vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free friendly options (breakfast/lunch recommended). It's a great reset if your body is needing one. We love starting our travel days with acai bowls
We have made a geoguessr for anyone that would like to go on a little scavenger hunt throughout Barcelona. Our version of Geoguessr is based on a geography game Sabrina used to play with some high school friends that takes you on a journey around the world (in this case Barcelona city) and challenges your ability to recognize your surroundings. In the google docs link below, you will find 9 pictures of various places around the city of Barcelona. Some may be easier to locate than others (some may be even places on our “things to do” website page, wink wink). It is your job to take a picture of yourself/group of friends/family at each of the following locations. Once you’ve completed them, send us the pictures! Have fun!
