It's a classic for a reason. Walking along the Mall from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial and then around the Tidal Basin to see the FDR, MLK and Thomas Jefferson Memorials is a great way to spend a morning, afternoon or night!
We LOVE the National Zoo. It's a little farther out (easy Uber/Lyft or subway trip), but it's a blast for all ages. We're particularly smitten with the pandas who will be returning to China shortly after the wedding, so now is your last chance to see them!
All of the Smithsonians are worth a visit (and free!), but the Museum of African American History and Culture tops the list. It's powerful, enlightening and inspiring. It can take a full day to see all of it, but even a couple hours is worth it. You will need to get reserved time passes that become available 30 days beforehand. There are also a few passes that become available on 8 a.m. the day of.
You can book a free tour of the U.S. Capitol! We did this recently, and it was very cool.
You can reach out to your U.S. Senator or Representative to get a free tour of the White House. Public tours are typically available from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to the White House website.
The best kept secret in D.C. is that the Postal Museum is one of the best museums in the city.
A fun indoor and outdoor market full of prepared foods, produce, baked goods, artisans. One of our favorite spots in DC.
Our favorite Chinese restaurant, just blocks away from our wedding venue.
Wonderful Indian food near the White House. Definitely worth a nosh!
Another favorite just down the street from us.
Some of the best homemade noodles we have ever had. So good.
