During his sophomore year of college, Fares took a job as an RA in a residence hall. So did his best friend, Tori. True to form, Fares spent a lot of time in Tori's building, Schurz Hall. That's where Ryan and Fares met. Ryan, a precocious freshman studying journalism and Spanish, first met Fares in the lounge on the 8th floor of Schurz. Fares doesn't really remember it; he knew Ryan was a high school football player and had some fratty friends. It wasn't until the summer after his freshman year that Ryan made a move, sending Fares a message on Facebook Messenger out of the blue. Fares was confused; what did Ryan want with him? But partway through the first conversation, Ryan made clear that his interests were romantic. That launched a summer of writing letters, talking, and texting back and forth that culminated in a first date at the ever-lovely HuHot Mongolian Grill in Columbia, MO. The rest is history.

Nine years in, we decided that our tenth anniversary was the right time. Ryan returned from a trip and we decided then and there that we should always eventually return to the same place.
