Visiting Santiago before or after the wedding: The city is big, and about 30 minutes east of the airport (our wedding is on the coast, about 2 hours west of the airport). All major brand hotels are in Santiago, and there are plenty of Airbnb options as well. But location is very important...best to stay in Las Condes, Vitacura, or Providencia, and read reviews about the quality and location (convenience, safety, etc). The public transit is pretty good (metro, buses), Uber is fairly reliable and inexpensive, and there are shuttle options between the city and airport (TransVIP is good and reliable). Traffic is generally heavy and driving in the city can be complicated even with gps. Parking garages are everywhere, but often very cramped and full.
If you rent a car, half-way between Santiago and the wedding is the famous Casablanca wine region. You could stop for wine tastings and lunch at one of many wineries, but our favorites are Casa del Bosque and Indomnita. Keep in mind that there is zero tolerance for drinking and driving in Chile, and occasionally there are random checkpoints. So, best to either designate a driver or allow plenty of time to pass if you are having more than one!
A UNESCO World Heritage City perfect for a day trip. It's approximately 90 minutes from Santiago, 75 minutes from our wedding venue, 30 minutes from Concon (Raddison Hotel), and 90 minutes from Hotel Marbella. A rental car is easiest (though the streets are narrow and winding with difficult parking), but there are also buses and Ubers to get you there and back.
Chile is a vast country with incredible nature. If you plan to extend your stay, a "once in a lifetime" opportunity would be to travel south (by air...it is far) to Torres del Paine in Patagonia. You would need at least 3 days to visit.

Buenos Aires, the home of Evita, the Flamenco, and so many interesting things to see. This is about a two-hour flight, and you would need a few days there. KLM does have a flight that goes from Amsterdam to Santiago, stopping in Buenos Aires each way ... it might be possible to coordinate an extended layover
One of the wonders of the world. It is about a 3 hour flight from Santiago to Cusco, and can be a little complicated to organize on your own, but plenty of tour companies offer complete packages that will include the train and tour to Machu Picchu.
