Question

How should I dress for the wedding? | Como debo vestirme para el matrimonio?

Answer

Beach Formal - Jacket & Tie for men and Elegant Dresses for women. Wear comfortable but formal shoes (bring two pairs if you like). The ceremony will take place on the sand, but the reception will be on solid ground. ****** Formal playero: chaqueta y corbata para los hombres y vestido elegante para las mujeres. Zapatos cómodos pero formales (trae dos pares de zapatos si quieres). La ceremonia se celebrará en la arena, pero la recepción será en tierra firme.

Question

What will the weather be like? | Como estara el tiempo?

Answer

Weather should be spring-like and comfortable during the day, and autumn-like and cool in the evening (bring and extra layer). ****** El clima será primaveral y agradable durante el día, y otoñal y fresco por la noche (trae algo para abrigarte).

Question

I'm flying internationally. When should I arrive?

Answer

We suggest you arrive at least one day before the wedding. Keep in mind that most international flights arrive early in the morning and therefore leave the USA and Europe the day before (i.e., to be on time for the 11th, you would want to arrive on the 10th which probably means leaving your country on the 9th).

Question

What do I need to enter Chile?

Answer

Most people do not require visas to enter Chile, however you can find specific information here: https://serviciomigraciones.cl/en/permanencia-transitoria-permit/subcategories/tourists/ If you do not need a visa, you will receive a tourist card (a paper slip marked PDI with all of your information) upon arrival that allows you to stay for up to 90 days. KEEP THIS PAPER as you will need to return it when you leave the country. After collecting your baggage, you will go through customs. You may be asked to complete a paper form, or a digital from that you can complete online (https://dj.sag.gob.cl/declaracion-jurada), and unless you have something to declare, you can proceed through the "green" channel. If you have something to declare, go through "Red" channel and let them inspect what you are bringing. Other than agricultural products and food, they are pretty relaxed. However, it is best to review what you can or cannot bring into the country, and when in doubt, it's best to declare it and ask. You can review the customs allowances here: https://www.aduana.cl/aduana/site/docs/20190424/20190424180105/equipaje_ingle__s.pdf

Question

How will I get around once I am in Chile?

Answer

Public transportation (buses and metro/subway) work well within Santiago. If you decide to rent a car, traffic in Santiago is heavy and parking can be challenging, however, you will have complete freedom of movement since the distances are a bit long. Driving in Chile is very similar to the USA, and on a tourist card which you will receive when you pass through immigration, you can drive with your US or European license. Keep in mind that there is zero tolerance for drinking and driving in Chile, and occasionally there are random checkpoints. So, best to either designate a driver or allow plenty of time to pass if you are having more than one! There are also Ubers, taxis, and buses available, and we can help you navigate those options as well as needed. However you prefer to get around, we will help. Nothing is too complicated so one need not worry too much about it.

Question

Do I need to convert currency into pesos or can I use credit cards?

Answer

Credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, and usually American Express) are excepted for almost everything in Chile ... it is virtually a cashless country. However, keeping some pesos "effectivo" on hand for tips, taxis, or souvenirs in the streets might be helpful, and US dollars are not generally accepted. The exchange rate is easy to calculate: it is approximately 1000 pesos to 1 US Dollar or 1 Euro (the peso uses the same symbol as the dollar - $)
