Our First Date

Start of forever

Rukil and Camille met freshman year at Rutgers University in 2014. During sophomore year, they became very close through the dreaded organic chemistry and the late nights of studying. Like any rom com, they were "just friends" even though for those next two years, they were always talking, laughing, and eating Noodle Gourmet. On 2/27/2016, Rukil told Camille to get dressed, meet him at the train station and that they were going to New York City. They took the train into the city and explored for the day. Camille really wanted to go to Grand Central Station because she hadn't been there before. In awe of the beauty of the station, Camille was looking around, walking around, and going "ohhh" and "ahhh". Deciding that it was the right time, Rukil asked Camille to be his girlfriend and she happily said yes. But that's not where this date ends! Rukil is a romantic at heart and knows Camille loves musicals. He surprised her with Broadway Roulette tickets. The way it works is you choose a date, select a number of tickets (in this case, two tickets), choose if you want to see a play or musical or eliminate a show you have seen before, and on the date you chose, be surprised with an amazing Broadway show. As they walk up to St. James Theatre, this is the ULTIMATE surprise. The show is Something Rotten the musical (not actually something rotten) and it was the show that Camille and her friend Mihir had brought Rukil to a few months prior for Rukil's birthday. They got to experience an amazing show for the second time! And as a forever theatre kid, Camille couldn't help but sing along. What a wonderful way to end the evening and start forever.

The Proposal

Yes to forever

The Concept: Since the beginning of time, Camille wanted her marriage proposal to be a flash mob. flash mob /ˈflaSH ˌmäb/ Group of people who come together to perform a dance or random act at a public place for the surprise and entertainment of those who happen to be there The Planning: Rukil did all the meticulous planning. He reached out to 40+ people, ranging from childhood friends, high school friends, college friends, and family. Rukil choreographed 5 songs (It Girl by Jason Derulo, Next to you by Chris Brown/Justin Bieber, Forever by Chris Brown, Marry Me by Jason Derulo, and Marry You by Bruno Mars). Some of which Camille had not-so-subtly suggested. He worked on 8 posters filled with photos of Rukil and Camille and their friends to spell out MARRY ME? The really hard part was trying to keep it all a secret from Camille. The Morning Of: Camille thought they were celebrating Rukil's birthday in Philadelphia because if you know Rukil, he is a big Philly fan #GoBirds Another friend's birthday was the week after so Amrita and Shital invited Camille to breakfast before the birthday "lunch" for Rukil. While Camille was unexpectedly having breakfast, Rukil was setting up in Logan Square park for the proposal. With both families there and all the friends ready, it was ~ SHOWTIME ~ The Proposal: Amrita and Shital brought Camille to Logan Square park and starting off strong, they went the wrong way into the park. As Amrita was pointing out that the trees were looking lovely today and Camille was being absolutely oblivious, Rukil started the music and the flash mob began. Camille was instantaneously in tears and as a new group of friends/family came out to dance, the happy tears just kept on coming. It wouldn't be a proposal if something didn't go wrong so of course, the speaker stopped 2/3 through the dance. Thankfully, it came back on and they finished the dance strong. As Camille walked up to Rukil, he said a few words (like how he is never doing a flash mob ever again) and got down on one knee. The Result: SHE SAID YES!!!
