Donostia is the Basque name for San Sebastián. Basque pride runs deep -- you’ll often find local citizens correcting you for calling it San Sebastián! Donostia is well-known for its international reputation as a summer getaway, Michellin-rated dining (more restaurants rated here per capita than anywhere else in the world!), and Belle Epoque city center.
Lander’s paternal side of the family all live within an hour from the city. Growing up, he often remembers traveling here in the late summer months for fireworks along La Concha and epic pintxo tours through Old Town. Ross and Lander first traveled together here about 3 years ago. This was the first time Ross met Lander’s extended family and they welcomed him (and us together!) with open arms. That memory, along with the many experiences had in Donostia thereafter make this city and its surroundings the perfect venue for our wedding.
We recommend renting a car if you plan to explore outside of San Sebastián or other cities/regions in Spain. Keep in mind most cars in Spain have manual transmissions, although cars with automatic transmissions are available. If you choose to rent a car, there are many public parking garages in San Sebastián, which average about €18/day. That said, San Sebastián is popular in the summer months and centrally-located garages may fill up early each day. Street parking is generally reserved for residents only and requires a permit.
We have provided a number of hotel options (see "Travel" page), both in the city center and around La Concha. Given the high season, we also recognize personal home rentals may be a better fit for some guests or groups. That said, we will coordinate transportation to and from events at one of the hotels. Please plan with that in mind.
