How we met

Like all good stories, this one starts at a dive bar. Well, not a dive bar in the classic sense, but at Canal Club in Venice, AKA the reject bar for those that couldn’t get into James Beach. (ahh the Golden Years on the Westside). Evan was at Canal Club with best friends Wade Wilson and Kaveh Anvaripour, and had struck up a conversation with a curious Swede named Linnéa Scharp. Julia, from across the crowded bar, saw Linnéa speaking to these fine young fellows and decided she needed to partake in light conversation (i.e. shouting over The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ blaired on the DJ’s speakers). Evan was instantly taken aback by this Nordic. It was love at first sight (yawn, ya right, buddy). No, it really was! In fact, after a few hours of hanging out at Canal Club, Evan told Linnéa he would one day marry Julia. Little did he know, that far fetched statement would become a reality less than 6 years later! Evan and Julia exchanged phone numbers, and more importantly, Snapchat usernames. They went their separate ways that night. A week passed when Evan, ever the innovative dater, decided the best way to court Julia was to invite her to her first festy, CRSSD Festival in San Diego. After all, Jamie XX was headlining and if Julia wasn’t into The XX then this budding relationship was a no-go as far as he was concerned. At CRSSD, Julia was introduced to fellow Manhattan Beach ragers Tommy Becker, David Ruderman, Jamey Hastings, Jimmy Aristizabal and Jessica Allen. Julia obviously loved The XX, to Evan's relief. The story continues! A month later, at Jon Rugg's Halloween party at his apartment on Ocean Park Blvd, Evan popped the "do you want to be my girlfriend"-question to Julia. The following six months, Julia and Evan spent almost every day together and she got to know all of Evan's best friends.

Long Distance

Eventually Julia’s visa expired and she had to move back to Sweden, which led to 2.5 years of long distance relationship, and many trips to see each other. They often “met in the middle” in places like Tulum, Berlin, London, NYC, Coachella and of course, Spain. The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, pintxos in San Sebastian, the Prado Museum in Madrid, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, and King Sol (Solomun) at Pacha Club in Ibiza. After three magical weeks in Spain, they knew this was where they would one day get married.

Sweden

After nearly three years, the 9-hour time difference between LA and Sweden became unbearable. They debated between Julia moving to LA, or Evan to Sweden. Then Evan decided to take a leap-of-faith and move to Sweden. After all, Evan had a UK passport which meant he could move to Europe without applying for residency. Having grown up in sunny southern California, it was not easy for Evan to leave it all behind for the cold and dark climate of Scandinavia, but it was time to take the relationship to the next step. The decision turned out to be the right one, as Evan really started liking Sweden. He got to know Julia's best friends and family better, and they met new lifelong friends. On November 8th 2020, Evan took Julia out on an autumn walk in a nearby park, and went down on one knee and asked her if she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. The rest is history!
