My family has stayed here numerous times when visiting me during my internship. While this hotel is not close to historic downtown, it is very close to the highway, shopping, dining options beyond what we listed and one of my dad's favorite places Cowboy Jacks. We are going to be looking to get a block of rooms at this hotel. Check the FAQs for more hotel options.

This is another bed and breakfast option. This is a home that predates the battle in 1862. Union General Oliver Otis Howard used this house as his headquarters during the 1862 battle. General Howard is also the founder of Howard University. Princess Anne St is the second main drag of the town. One block up from Caroline St, you will be near the Mary Washington House, the home of George Washington's mother and Kenmore Plantation, the home of Washington's sister and brother-in-law. Train
Northeast regional is the best way to travel to and from DC or down to Richmond if you choose to not drive to any of the other areas for sightseeing. There is also the VRE, https://www.vre.org/. This is our local transit system.
Flight
This would be the best airport to fly into. It is a straight shot down to Fredericksburg. They have car rentals right there at the terminal as well as a shuttle bus. Check the FAQs for more airport options. DISCLAIMER: It is only fair to put this out there. The stretch of I-95 from DC to Fredericksburg was voted the worst stretch of this highway that runs from Maine to Miami. I can sit here and explain that if you get onto Route 1 that you may get here faster. Just stay the course and keep us updated on your status. We will help find you a faster way but it really is only I-95 and Route 1. Use GPS to whatever hotel you are going to. Most of you will take exit 130 A to get to any hotels you are staying at. If need be, the other exit is 130 B for Fredericksburg.
Flight
Though Richmond is the same distance to Fredericksburg as DC is, coming from the south you could find your ride a lot smoother. I do not know about the price variation of flying into here versus Reagan. Check the FAQs for more airport options.
Travel Note
We know many of you have to fly in. We know that expense with renting a car and hotel, plus spending money can add up. We will do what we can to make this an awesome trip for you. We will try to coordinate carpooling. If multiple people want to take my tours, we will fit as many as we can into a vehicle, but we may have to carpool/caravan the tours.
