It was graduation weekend at Southern New Hampshire University. We were both part of a group of 2018 graduates that had several gatherings scheduled throughout the weekend. We met in Boston and connected immediately. During commencement John was filming a commercial for SNHU. Despite being on opposite sections of the arena for the ceremony, by complete chance we exited through the trellis together. This is how our story began!
After a summer of traveling to see each other, we decided to make a life together in Fredericksburg, VA. I had always known I wanted to propose on the one year anniversary of when we met. I wanted to combine my two loves, Sarah and the Civil War, into this huge moment. I originally wanted to propose on top of Little Round Top, in Gettysburg, PA, because of the view of the entire battlefield from there, but I was a bit worried Sarah might get too excited and have a misstep. Instead I decided to propose in the middle of the Pickett's Charge field. A location where the entire Gettysburg battlefield is all around us. In the middle of a rain soaked field that we had to ourselves, I proposed. The journey continued through puddles and mud and humidity for another surprise. My family awaited us at the end of Pickett's Charge and surprised Sarah.
Now we are ready to make this official and we want you there to help us celebrate it. The venue for the wedding and reception is Brock's Riverside Grill. We will be right next to the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, VA. Just to nerd out, the bulk of the Union Army marched right past this spot during the Battle of Fredericksburg in December of 1862. This is also one of our favorite restaurants in town.
