Question

Why So Early?

Answer

Sarah and I realize that when we set the wedding date for a year and a half later, that it would raise some eyebrows as we get things set. The reason we are doing so much so early, like making this website, is because none of you live here. We are sending out invitations from as close as Virginia to as far away as Hawaii. Plane tickets for October of 2020 will go on sale in November of 2019. We are doing everything we can to give everyone that has to travel, the opportunity to make plans. We know it can be a burden to travel, so Sarah and I want to make it as easy as possible. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US ABOUT QUESTIONS FOR HOTELS, FLIGHTS, ETC. We live here and can help. Remember we listed hotels and bed and breakfasts, but here in the FAQ I list other options and there is so much more. We want you all here and will do our part. Remember November 2019 for those that have to fly here and check our airport info on this site. We will post when rooms are blocked.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Yes! There are kids meals available, please RSVP with how many children will be attending, so we can have the kid's meals coordinated. Domer - we got you.

Question

Are there other hotel options?

Answer

Tons. This is a college town and a tourist town. We just highlighted some top choices. The only hotel I do not recommend is the Super 8 on Plank Road. It was very dirty and uncomfortable when I stayed there. There are many options like the Best Western, Sleep Inn, Hampton Inn, and many places with suites for those needing larger rooms. Check online or just send us a text or email and ask about locations of any hotels you find online. I am also sure you can find something on Air BnB

Question

Are there other airports to fly into?

Answer

Yes. There are two other options. Dulles International Airport in DC, https://flydulles.com/iad/dulles-international-airport, and BWI near Baltimore, https://www.bwiairport.com/. Dulles is close to DC but it is on the opposite end of the city from I-95. You will be adding at least 30 minutes to your drive time to Fredericksburg. BWI, or Thurgood Marshall, is in Maryland between DC and Baltimore, closer to the latter. It is close to I-95, however you will have added at least an hour to your drive down to Fredericksburg.

Question

Are you kidding me?

Answer

No I am not kidding you. This is mentioned in the airport information we posted, but I realized those that will be driving here should know this as well. I-95 between Washington DC and Fredericksburg was voted worst stretch of this highway that runs from Maine to Miami. Yes that traffic is daily. I know many of you know NYC traffic, but this is ridiculous. Just stay the course and follow your GPS to your hotel. You can take route 1, but that has lights. I have been known to get some luck going down 1, but again, it is a crapshoot. Just keep us informed and we will do what we can to maybe find another way. But for now it is I-95 and Route 1.

Question

Civil War Tours

Answer

Obviously all of you know my passion for Civil War history. This is a big reason why Sarah and me moved here. As many of you read in the things to do tab, I am offering free tours of any of our four major battlefields. Of course historic downtown is included in this. The thing is, if many of you want a tour, I cannot be in four different battlefields at the same time. As we draw closer, email me or text, civilwar6165@gmail.com or 201-965-1863 and let me know what fields you want to see, remember 3-4 hours per field so if you want to see multiple ones I suggest multiple days out on the fields, I will try to coordinate a group tour for those that want to see Fredericksburg and those that want to see Wilderness and so on. This way I am not bouncing around from field to field with different people all the time. This will give me the chance to coordinate tours and vehicles needed.

Question

What else is there to do in Fredericksburg?

Answer

Fredericksburg is so much more than the Civil War. The website we posted, "Things to do in Fredericksburg," has all this information. It could be confusing to navigate so here are a few things to see. Across the river is Ferry Farm, George Washington's boyhood home. The stories of skipping a stone across the river and chopping down a cherry tree come from here. Belmont is a home that honors the work of artist Gari Melcher. In town you have Mary Washington, mother of Washington, her home and grave. Kenmore Plantation, the home of Washington's sister and brother-in-law. James Monroe law office Rising Sun Tavern, originally the home of Charles Washington, George's younger brother, then a tavern in the post-revolution years. Hugh Mercer Apothecary. My Jersey peeps, ever wonder where Mercer County comes from? Well here you go. There is colonial history through Civil Rights history. On the website just click on the image of Washington to find more information on these things and more.
