Our Story

9.23.2012

My sister Carey and I went to the Los Angeles Brewing Company downtown to watch Sunday football. We were just killing time before Carey's flight back home to San Francisco. A guy with slicked back hair and an Arsenal jersey came over and sat at our table and started talking to Carey about sports. I wasn't feeling well and was annoyed about being in between them when they talked, so I got up, went to the bathroom and then sat across the table from them when I came back. Eventually something came up about dim sum and I said that I really liked it. James said there was really good dim sum in Monterey Park. I lit up a bit and said that the Curves where I worked out is in Monterey Park and James said that's where he grew up. He said he'd like to take me out for dim sum sometime. I had no real interest in him whatsoever and thought he liked my sister but I said ok and gave him my number. Carey and I left, and as we were getting into the car, I said "He only asked me out to keep track of you". Carey said actually no, that when I went to the bathroom, James said to Carey that he hoped he wasn't too contrived. He was actually talking to my sister to get to talk to me. 3 hours later I was back home, sitting on the couch, still not feeling well and I got a text from James asking me out for a night cap when he got done with his softball game. I said sure. I didn't think we'd have anything in common but he seemed like a nice guy and he picked Tony's Saloon which was very close to me. I got there first and when he walked in he was wearing normal clothes and a Dodgers cap and I was like "Oh no, I'm in trouble". How did I not realize how cute he was before?! We played pool, drank and talked. I found out he was a DJ so we had the creative connection and that we were both adopted so we really connected over that. He walked me to the car and didn't kiss me, but asked me out for another date, which was a comedy show on Tuesday. From then on we were hooked and the rest is history.
