How We Met

We met on a dating app! Lindsey had been recently laid off from her job, and was deleting her dating apps so as to contain the level of rejection and disappointment to one area of life for the meantime: job hunting. She opened an app she rarely looked at and found a message from Roger. Unless you've been on a dating app, it's hard to explain the dumpster fire of profiles one typically swipes through, so when she read his profile and it was thoughtful, funny, and made her curious to know more, she knew she had to reply to this one last message before deleting the app off her phone. Roger was intrigued by Lindsey's profile and on this rare occasion, he decided to message first, though this was not his norm. After a few days of chatting, he asked her out for coffee (Lindsey had determined to NOT be the first one to suggest a date since "she was planning on deleting this thing anyway" but was hoping Roger would because the banter was top tier). They met at Cafe Reveille in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood, progressed to a dinner of dumplings while discussing how much they both hated the neighborhood's architecture (both likening it to if Chipotle designed apartment towers). Roger felt like talking to Lindsey in person was as if he already knew her, and Lindsey was surprised that for once, a man's dating profile matched who he was in person, in the best way possible. A year and a half later, Roger proposed on one of their 12 Dates of Christmas, at Filoli, a historic mansion and garden estate he and Lindsey have loved exploring. If they were millionaires, they would be getting married there too.
